I know there are 1001 threads on this, and for that reason, I don't remember what thread posed the question of will you automatically get a Chase card, which is considered to be a better card than a WaMu card. The answer is in a mailing I just received today:

When your existing card expires, you will receive a new Chase card, subject to continuing to meet our credit criteria.

So that's the answer. If Chase doesn't like you, they will drop you.

The same mailing answered my own question about Chase's "Flexible points" which do not convert to a cash rebate of 1 point to 1 cent, unless you have 10K points (I do have almost 9K points, and will get 1.4K more points in March/April) so these points are not as good as Chase Freedom points. I wonder if I could convert. Does Chase do a hard pull to convert a product like they do for a CLI?

As a side note, I also got a mailing today that my rate on my Chase Toy R Us is going to 15.99% (up from 10.24%). I'm not going to opt out, as the $30K limit is nearly 33% of my total limits; plus I have a $10K balance on it, but it's at a promotional APR of 3.99% until paid, which supposedly will not be affected.

Message Edited by Mike14 on 01-30-2009 07:11 PM

Hypothetical question: After Wamu gets completely absorbed by Chase (March-ish), would someone who "lost" their Wamu card and reported it get a Chase card?

Hmmm.

Well, that's interesting.

Last year, when I applied with Chase, they checked Equifax, and declined due to an old collection and not enough time on my open accounts.

I got my WaMu card in the fall with no problems.

I have recieved the letters, and the one about getting a new card whenever my old card expires (which will be in 2011). By then, I'll have my credit with Equifax good to go.

I'd prefer the Chase branded card, but I don't want the account closed.

I guess I'll wait and see what happens when others try it.

When I received letters for both of my WAMU cards, I decided to call customer service. I was also nervous about the wording of continuing to meet their credit criteria. I was told that if Chase was going to close your account, you would have already received a letter telling you that. The rep also checked both of my accounts and said I was fine. I know they can be wrong, but it gave me more hope that I will actually hold onto both of my accounts.

Received the same letter telling me that my Providian would be Flexible Rewards...wish I'd known that before I rushed to use my reward points last week! This card has always had a much higher apr than my Wamu card. Much higher credit limit too. Keeping my fingers crossed that sometime in the near future I just MIGHT stand a chance of having my apr lowered
