None of CapitalOne's cards have FTFs. Quicksilver has a simple 1.5% rewards system and has no annual fee. Note that CapOne will pull all three bureaus. But any requests for credit limit increases will be soft pulls.

The Chase Amazon Visa is also a no-FTF card. It may come in with a lower starting limit than you might like, but there's a good chance that Chase will auto-increase it after three or four months. Chase may pull two bureaus to approve, and customer-initiated CLI requests will involve a hard pull.

If he's going to be traveling like that, maybe a travel card might make his life easier. Cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred offer a lot of value for a $95 annual fee, which is on the lower end when it comes to credit cards. Not only does it have no FTFs but if he has to charge his personal cards for business travel and be reimbursed later, then he can rack up Ultimate Rewards points fairly quickly.

Sometimes they pay directly, sometimes reimbursement after...it's annoying. Usually airfare is paid for directly by his job, so travel points arent essential.

Good luck trying to convince him $95 is worth it for a credit card - he moans constantly about the $29 a year Bank of America charges him on a legacy card he refuses to call and change.

I do know that the Huntington Voice also fits the category, but you need to be in their service area. Personally, I think the Amazon and Quicksilver are the way to go. Alot of sites i see recommend having 3 credit cards when travelling (in case accounts are frozen for fraud protection). And having both a Visa and Mastercard. They also recommend having a debit card or two to access cash just in case. The only no FTF debit with ATM fee refunds i could find was with Charles Schwab.

I would recommend the Capital One Quicksilver. No BS, easy to redeem rewards, usually fairly good credit lines if you have a good credit.

A good alternative is the Bank of America Travel rewards card, which is also 1.5% but as travel points so I'm not sure if you can get the bonus for redeeming it in your BofA checking or savings account.

The problem with store cards is you usually don't get the Mastercard or Visa version. They choose to upgrade you with no one seeming to know exactly what does it. So I wouldn't recommend Nordstrom unless you expect it to be a use only in their store card.

Your welcome for the information. I'm looking with going with a buddy of mine to Seoul next year and so I've been doing research on this very topic lately. I'm just trying to figure out if I need a card that supports a PIN myself. I know in Europe it is recommended.

You may want to consider the PACU Premier Privileges Rewards MC. If you have a FICO Score 2 of at least 730 or higher, it has as low as 7.5% F APR, ~1.5% cashback rewards (not exactly 1.5% even b/c they use points, more like about 1.4%), no FTF, no BT fees, and other nice benefits such as Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance, etc.

https://www.premieramerica.com/loans/credit-cards (it should be the first card listed by default on the page)

ETA: also the CU does not appear to have any geographical restrictions, AFAIK.

Redeem the rewards from dollar 1, no hassle. Accepted worldwide, no hassle. 1.5% everywhere, no hassle. No AF, no FTF.

IMO the king of generic cash-back cards is currently PenFed's new Power Cash Rewards card because it is 2% cash back on everything (automatically if military, but everyone else can get 2% simply by dropping $500 in a free checking account). and has no foreign transaction fees.

It's like a supercharged Quicksilver. Plus PenFed is great for tons of other financial products like PLOC, other cards, low rate auto loans etc. They're great to be with and super easy to join.
