Capital One credit steps Email....

Hi guys! So just to update and fill you in on my situation. I have my first credi card EVER and I just had my first statement cut on the 22nd. The uti at the time it cut was around 26%. I made 4 payments before the statement cut, used some of the available credit and just made a $100 payment again today. I have no credit...like no score yet and 5 inq on each report...well maybe 4 on one of them. My dad added me as a AU on a couple of his cards and all that.. Anyways my main reason for being here today is because I got an email from Capital One today that stated....

Get more from your new credit card—use your card at least once, pay your bills on time and you’ll gain access to a higher credit line. Increase your credit line to:
$500
by paying your bill on time for your next five monthly payments. There’s nothing to sign up for. The countdown to your higher credit line begins with your next payment, and by July 2017, you’ll have access to your new credit line.

So here's the deal. I've been lurking around and reading that some people requested and was approved for a cli after their 3rd or 4th statement cut and still received their steps cli. I'm not gonna lie I requested a cli right after I recieved the card in the mail ( I didn't know what I was doing) and of course recieved the big NO...but here's my question....if I continue to use the card often and make many payments do you guys think I could possibly get a cli in a couple months? Or did I screw up by requesting one already? Rememember I'm new here...Be nice lol...Thanks in advance for all feedback and sorry for making this so long. Have a great evening everyone!!!

I got mine somewhere between 60 and 70 days after account opening. Requesting a CLI with Cap 1 does not reset anything or hurt you, you can request one every day if you'd like.
Yes, you can get an increase before credit steps and will still get at least the $500 listed in the email. After that you can request a CLI every 6 months

No you didn't screw up. Request again after 3rd or 4th statement cuts.

No you haven't messed anything up. You can request a CLI after the third statement and still receive your credit steps increase, as long as you make your payments on time.

I'm assuming you're CL is at $300 now? What they told you is the minimum increase you will get. They told me $250 on mine, then gave me a $1000 increase after 62 days and another $500 in Credit Steps. You should get an email sometime in the last month that has a firm number on it for the increase.

Yes it's $300...my second statement should've cut today so maybe I'll see an increase soon... Hopefully lol...

Yup! I was offered $250 when I asked after 3rd statement, which I declined, then offered $300 when I asked after 4th statement, which I took. Then I got my Credit Steps for $500 on my 6th statement. It's very common to get one before the steps increase. Good luck!

I'd look at when you opened the account, not necessarily statements. About day 65 I got an increase from $300 to $1,800 and still got $500 from credit steps after the 6th statement

I was approved for the card on Jan 2nd so yea... It hasn't been 65 days yet...

So I hit my 6 months Monday and received an increase from $200 to $500 on my secured Capital One Card. I fell that the increase was very little since I've paid off my card off on time every month and kept a minimal balance. Since they increased me Monday, do you think it's smart to ask for an increase today? Also will they run my credit when I ask for an increase?

If I remember correctly after your credit steps increase you have to wait awhile to ask for another CLI.

I requested and was approved for my first CLI after the 4th statement cut and then received my credit steps within a month or two. Good luck!

Most people here have had success getting one CLI before steps and then steps; from there it's 6 months between CLIs

Speaking for myself here, my Cap1 Platinum:

07/2015: Opened, $300 CL (offered credit steps up to $500 CL)

09/2015: Denied requested CLI (too soon)

10/2015: $500 CLI to $800 CL (requested)

01/2016: $500 CLI to $1300 CL (credit steps)

06/2016: $2000 CLI to $3300 CL (credit steps?)

I don't think you can get a CLI before your third statement.

I haven't been able to increase above that level and have been denied a CLI based on too low payments (which doesn't make any sense to me). Since then, my Cap1 Platinum has been upgraded to a Quicksilver (for differentiation, not a QS1).

I got my first increase before my third statement but it was a day after my third month of having it.

I just made a post yesterday or 2 days ago about getting a CLI before 3rd statement - I have yet to recieve any credit steps email.

Also OP mentioned above $200-$500 cli on secured and asked about a CLI - You can't CLI on secured.

Maybe I missed something, if so I apologize.

The reason being me now getting an increase is "too many recent inquiries". I haven't apped for anything since I got the card... (I think) doesn't make sense to me... Oh well
