Chase Marriott card

The AF hit on my chase marriot card. I can't believe its been a year already. From my research it doesn't look like much of a chance at an AF credit. Is this card worth holding on to? I don't stay at marriot very often, but I do maintain status there at least for the time being. Once my gold status lapses I will probably either pick up an amex plat biz card or the ritz card to get that status back. I currently have the amex SPG business card, so even if I were to stay at marriott (and pay instead of using points) I'd probably rather use that card to pay. The credit line on my marriott card is only 5k so the util hit won't be that bad and I suppose I could use the additional freed up credit for my upcoming hyatt card app. I already got the free night for this year and in another year I will be able to reapply for a new marriott card and get the bonus again. In the situation any reason for me to hold on to the card? I'm thinking it needs to go. Also, since the AF is due in a few weeks and is part of this statement what will happen if I make a small purchase on the marriot card now and pay it off before the current payment date and then close the card. Will I still get the points on that transaction even though I closed the card before the statement could cut? The reason I ask is I'd like to make a small purchase just to extend the amount of time I have to use the marriot points in my account.

I am confused here, if you also hold the spg card and you connected your accounts, the spg could hold the points (not sure but in the transfer the marriott points are worth less BUT that is compared to spg, which points there are transferable to many frequent flyer programs)....so why would you need to purchase something to keep the points? move them over to your spg, no?

Watching this thread... I'm in the same boat as you but with the SPG card. Does the SPG earn better than the Marriott/Ritz? Maybe I should shift over my spending to SPG? I didn't realize Amex Platinum gives you automatic Gold status, so no need to meet the 10k spend thresholds?

Cal no spend minimum at all. SPG and Hilton gold are automatic (you do have to enroll) and extend to AUs also. Obviously SPG translates to Marriott and R-C. Marriott card has higher earning for certain categories than the 1x of the SPG but since they're valued 3:1 and can be transferred easily and free, yes the SPG is a better earner.
