Wal Mart Discover ?'s

DW was at Wal Mart today. She asked me about a Wal Mart Discover card she saw someone use, since I don't know anything about it I am asking all of you. Who backs it, GEMB? Is this like HSBC Discover, you get it offered after you fail the regular Discover test? Does it grow? Is it a bad card to have if you are waiting for the real Discover to send you an invite?

GEMB

It's the first card they try to put you in if you apply for a Walmart card, and if not approved, then they try for just regular Walmart Card. Has nothing to do with regular Discover

I kind of like the Sams Discover better becuase they seem to offer Higher CL's and bigger CLI's then walmart for whatever reason.

So, this is not like a starter Discover? If you do well with this card, it has no bearing on Discover since they do not back it? Kind of like a Citi or BofA AMEX?

Thanks, thats the answer I was looking for. In that case I am going to go back in my bunker and wait for a real Discover app.

A BofA AMEX doesnt help you get a real AMEX? If thats the case I've been duped! Oh well, I should qualify for a decent AMEX soon, I'm almost in the 700 club....

BofA has nothing to do with Amex.

These are good things to know. It also explains why one of my friends has a Citi AMEX even though he shafted the real AMEX back in the 90's. Too bad the Citi AMEX did not put his member since date as 1990.

Many would argue that the BofA AmEx is currently more "decent" than the real thing. American Express is struggling financially, and some of their customers have been affected.

At any rate, BofA AmEx (and USAA AmEx, and all the others) are processed like true AmEx AmEx's, but the bank behind them is not American Express Centurion Bank. (I think that's their name.) They also have many of the consumer protections offered by standard American Express cards. Same thing for the WalMart Discover card --it's processed through the Discover card network, but it's backed by GEMB, not Discover Bank.

I have this card and I LOVE it! They started me off in Aug. 08 with 2K. It has cash back rewards and I have already earned about $20.00 with normal use. I don't charge tons of stuff. They send you a check for every $10.00 you earn back.

It can also be used any place that accepts Discover. Apr is a bit high at 18.9%

Can't remember if there is annual fee or not, but I don't think there is.
