Did you try opening an account with Chase? I feel that helps a lot. I have had a checking and savings account with Chase, and when I applied for a Freedom card 6 months after I got my first credit card, I got approved it with a 500$ (pretty measly, but still) limit. 1 month back, after 6 months of use and payments on the Freedom, and with the total assets with Chase increasing beyond 10k, I got 'Selected for you' offers for the FU, CSP and Slate. Applied for the CSP, got approved with a 6k SL, with my first card opened in Feb 2016.

Maybe you could start by parking 300$ in a savings account? The card application does ask if you have accounts wth Chase.

I had a thin credit history. Not certain if it's relevant, but I created a Chase checking account with some fairly large auto deposits and was able to get CSP and Freedom within about 6 months of that. No pre-qual for either. I only had 2 cap 1 cards before that totalling 5K. Curious to hear if others think checking accounts influence anything.

Have you checked the pre-qual tool on their site? If so they also offer pre-approvals on their free credit report thing (Credit Journey?). Also if you are close to a branch you can go in and check for pre-approvals, which are off a different system than the ones you can look at online for yourself. Also do you just want a Chase card or particular card...if you just want Chase...what about the Amazon Prime card people have argued that it is the easist Chase card to get...

I was going to suggest the same thing, using the "pre-qualified offers" link on the Chase site. There you should be able to see if you're not able to get a Chase card, as those pre-quals are said to be about 90% solid.

Yup, tried that but it shows nothing went to branch even that shows nothing looking for Chase CSP.

Sounds like you should sit tight and not apply for a Chase card yet since you don't stand a great chance of approval. Solid credit behavior and 6 months can do a lot of good though, so you shouldn't have to wait too long.

I test the Chase prequal site myself (along with Citi, BoA and Amex) at least once a week to see if anything comes up, and so far nothing has - I just get variations on the 'We were unable to find any pre-qualified offers for you at this time". I'm neither much surprised nor bothered since I had a mini-spree in February and March with three approvals and inquiries for each, so I figure the only sure remedy to get offers to start generating is time and prudent management of my existing accounts. That's what gardening is for, after all.
