Well the Capital One Platinum card is just a mastercard platinum. The Quicksilver you now have is a World Elite Mastercard so it comes with more benifites that regular platinum mastercards don't. I upgraded my Platinum to Quicksilver not long ago and for awhile it did show up as quicksilver online and the wallet app. Then I got a custom image card and it went back to platinum but still gets the 1.5% cash back.

I have a Capital One Platinum card that I got a few days after discharge from Chapter 7. A couple months later, I requested an upgrade to a QS, which was approved. I noticed it still appeared as a Platinum card on the website and asked them about it. I was told "Quicksilver is a rewards program, Platinum is the card".

Fast forward to this weekend- I was approved for a Quicksilver with a $10K SL. When I see it online, it shows up as "Quicksilver" and in another email regarding signing up for Capital One Wallet, it was refered to as "World Elite Mastercard".

Does anyone know what the differences in these terms are?

I have a Cap One Quicksilver, it is a World Elite Master Card as well. A World Elite Master Card give you a lot of benefits. Some are no foreign transaction fees (saves you 3 or more percent when outside of the USA). 24 houe Conciege Services, and more. Check your insert with your card or go to The Capitol One Site and look it up. Additional perks if you travel/vacation. Congrats!

The product names in my CapOne account changed recently. The explanation was that based on customer feedback, they switched to displaying Visa/MasterCard branding rather than CapOne branding. The cards were still Quicksilver and QuicksilverOne, even though Quicksilver was no longer mentioned.

Based on posts here, this doesn't seem to be happening to everyone. My changes occurred when I ordered customized cards (which happened to also have new expiration dates).

I did the same thing. It eventually chaged to Quicksilver. Merge the old quicksilver into your new one and make a single card with a higher limit, especially since the Platinum is a rebuilder.

With Capital One it can be confusing since 'Platinum' is both a benefits level and the name of their no-rewards card.

Another way to think about it is that with Capital One, any card that's not WMC, WEMC, or Signature (Visa) is 'Platinum' (network-wise)... this primarily only impacts network-level benefits - your cash back percent or "miles" will be the same no matter what network level you're at.

For example, I happen to have an old Quicksilver MasterCard that is not WMC or WEMC so it's at the 'Platinum' benefits level (in other words, I get 1.5% cash back but only basic MasterCard bennies). Making it even more confusing is that at different times over the years this card has sometimes displayed online as "Quicksilver" and other times displayed as "Platinum MasterCard", although I have been getting the Quicksilver 1.5% cash back consistently.

Capital One could certainly do better with their marketing and branding; specifically, they need a new name for their basic no-frills card (IMO).

It is my understanding that every card that is not a world mastercard or a signature visa is a platinum card with Cap One.

Plat can be upgraded in the future when qualified (my QS Plat MC was upgraded to Venture World MC).
