BEWARE, A MACY'S ASSOCIATE TOLD ME THEY WOULD REACTIVATE A CARD THAT WAS NOT USED FOR SOME TIME. I CLEARLY INDICATED THAT I DO NOT WANT A NEW LINE OF CREDIT. ROUGHLY ONE YEAR LATER I HAD TWO OPEN ACCOUNTS ON MY CREDIT REPORT. DO NOT OBTAIN CREDIT FROM MACY'S. OTHER ARTICLES REPORT PRESSURE WITHIN COMPANY TO SIGN PEOPLE UP FOR CREDIT. THIS ASSOCIATE DID SO UNDER FALSE PRETENSES. I IMMEDIATELY CLOSED MY VIRTUALLLY UNUSED 11-YEAR OLD MACY'S CARD AND MACY'S AMEX. I DON'T APPRECIATE COMPANIES PLAYING WITH MY HARD-EARNED CREDIT SCORE.

You do realize that Macys and Macys Amex are two separate lines of credit and getting the Amex version ,for example, doesnt just close your original account. Did they open a third line without your consent?

Thank you for your response. Yes, I am aware that Macys and Macys Amex are two separate lines of credit and getting the Amex version would not close my original account. I have had the original Macy's card for over 11 years and in great standing period I had no reason to open a second card. I was told that the original Macys card had been deactivated for non-use. I was told that the card could be reactivated and that I could proceed with a purchase. I specifically stated that I did not want a second line of credit. I merely wanted the original card reactivated as pledged. Later, I find that I have a Macy's and a Macy's AMEX card in my name. Both Transunion and Equifax report to separate lines of credit. I did not request a second line of credit. Thank you once again.

The original card was opened in 2005. The newer Macy's AMEX was opened in 2016. Both Trans Union and Equifax showed both accounts as being open lines of credit. I could be wrong, but if one was deactivated for non-use, I would have expected that card to have been listed as closed. I cant hrlp but note your point which i appreciate, but had I known that a new line of credit was being set up, i would have declined. According to the tworld credit bureaus, they two accounts were active until I requested that both cards be cancelled... One recently reported as closed and dropped off the list of open accounts.

Just to clarify, both accounts were listed as OPEN and in good standing with Equifax despite one card supposedly being inactive. Had I not requested closure of both accounts, both accounts would still appear as open today.

With retail card and app-ing in store you need to realize that these employees arent really knowledgeable about credit nor the products they are pushing. They are just told to push the credit cards. No offense, but it's kind of on you to be aware and informed. Is it right, no, but its the reality of it. A simple 5 minutes on google would show you that the store card and AMEX are two different products. As for the pressure within the company to sign people up, thats not exclusively Macy's, that all retailers. Everywhere you go cashiers and associates are expected to push the store cards and some even have quotas to meet for apps

As for your knock on Macy's for credit. I get everyones experience and circumstances are different. Is it the best credit card? By no means is it. But they are generous with CLI, currently at $3000 SL after starting with a $300 SL last June. So they have their benefits and are a pretty decent card to have and work with.

Again, to clarify, I have no issue with Macy's credit cards. I rarely used my original card. My knock as you put it is on Macy's setting up a 2nd line of credit without my approval. I can appreciate that mistakes happen if that was the case, but that does not dismiss my concern with them.

If you are still not understanding what happened then maybe the issue was with you and not the representative from Macys. You applied for a different product which is how you ended up with a store card and an AMEX. And best of luck to you trying to dispute this, because they will say that you agreed to the terms and signed when you applied as I'm certain you signed when you were "re-opening" the old account.

Ok going back to your original post, please forgive me if im confused lol, so it seems when you went to mske a purchase you were informed that your 11 year old Macys was closed and they offered to reopen it to help with your purchase. You had no idea they would be opening a new account, in this case the Amex version, as you were under the impression this was only to reopen your card. If that was the case i can see how its miscontrued by the cashier because obviously they will tell you they can reopen your account, they cant but i assume they just want to get you to apply. It is sneaky to be sure. The thing is is very hard to get a once closed for inactivity csrd reopened.

Ok, not sure we are clear on that part. Then once you realize you have 2 accounts listed on your reports reporting as open this is where you have issue correct?. I know for sure Equifax is kooky and they hsve closed accounts of mine still showing as open ( currently disputing those) but i guess it can be agravating to see this. Did you not tecieve the Amex card either and if so did you call immediately to dispute the validity of the second line being opened?

Again sorry if im confused, got me some Wednesday midweek blues lol

You are 100% correct. I have never carried the original card and have no recollection of receiving the new card. However, when I looked at my credit report and saw the two accounts I checked a box in my den and found both cards. The new card still had the sticker on it to activate. I must have seen a new car but as soon as this replacement. Thanks
