Just closed hubby's Cap1 secured card

Chatted first and got the standard 'It can't be unsecured now but it may be possible in the future'. Now to cancel his Fingerhut account. Weighing some more cards for closure also.

oooh you might have jumped the gun a little too early..cap 1 HAS been unsecuring after 11th statement but it depends on when you opened the account

I have been anxiously awaiting my 11th statement to cut tomorrow to see if mine unsecures

His was opened October of 15. We got ours too early. Story of our life. Lol

capital one is really on my bad side... when i apped for their secured credit card there was a anual fee. long story short 4 years later of perfect history with them, they only upped my cli once however they refuse to take the "secured" title of my card so 1. i cant request cli's on my own 2. they cant do a product change 3. they refuse to at least waive the anual fee since their new secured cards no longer have anual fees. once i get the 2 cards i want i will definitely be closing them out and taking the hit on the AAOA

You won't take a AAoA hit because the account will stay on your reports for about another 10 years.

off topic i applied for cap 1 secured denied , they pulled all 3 reports but cited the trans union they pulled fico 04 how about that.

@rubicon Please let us know if your card automatically graduates today to an unsecured card! I'd love to see more proof (approval emails, chat transcripts, etc.) of this actually taking place. The last time I spoke to a supervisor at Capital One, her response to my question about graduating was "Don't believe what you read on any unofficial forums online."

I've had my 11th statement cut yesterday and nothing. I contacted Cap one and they said my account isn't coded for this program but that could change sigh

Anyway Cap-1 is ALL over the place with these secured cards they have NO automation with regard to these end...The Steps and other things have detectable patterns, this graduation thing has not proven to be 🍪 cutter at all

But it appears the cards issued about last April/May are coded differently as we see many ppl with 'younger' cards getting 5, 7,9 month love whereas slightly older and much older accounts are shown No Love😣

You wont take any hit on AAOA's for closing a card. You will take a hit on AAOA's when you open accounts.

@Gemini101 Be careful making assumptions. I didn't mention any online forums. The supervisor came up with that claim all by herself! I just said I've heard that they've been graduating account in general, and was simply inquiring about more details and if there was now an official policy. Which I came to find out there isn't one. She told me that there have only been a few hundred accounts that were graduated so far.

Cap1 denied you a "secured" account?? What is on your credit report that scared them that bad?

I didn't realize Cap1 denied ANY secured accounts. Granted, I haven't played with secured cards in 20 years.

Really curious as to what's on your credit report, if you don't mind sharing, for the sake of science and all that...

Just adding to the CSR/forums discussion. DH is a BOFA CSR Supervisor and he doesn't read the forum but he says he has several people a day tell him something they read on a forum. It's entirely possible that the Cap1 CSR has had many people call to ask and argue that they've read on the forum about secured cards graduating.

I'm in the same boat you are with my cap1 secured card. I opened mine 3/13, they call it a Platinum now but they won't PC it and they gave me one cli in four years and I still have to pay the $29 AF. The only reason I keep it open is for the AAOA, it's my oldest card. Is the $29 AF worth keeping the card open?

When was your next oldest card opened? Closing it won't affect your AAoA for another 10 years or so.

I only have two open cards, cap1 secured opened 3/13 and cap1 aenture opened 7/16. I have two closed cards on my file boa closed 12/07 and an applied secured closed 9/16. All cards have perfect payment history.
