Walmart MC upgrade question

Hubby's Walmart account is showing that the MC has been 'recently' mailed since at least a few days ago and is now asking for it to be activated. The chat CSR said today that it'd be mail from the 12th to the 24th. I was wondering if anyone who got the invitation and didn't decline it has received theirs yet. Mail has gone astray in our town before.

Mine shows the same . I called and found out that they will be mailing out MCs between april 14th and 29th. They havent mailed out anything.

Thanks. I hate not knowing when cards are mailed or wI'll be mailed. We never received the chipped Sam's card and had to have them resend them. Our temporary mail carrier isn't the best, to put it nicely.

My upgrade came in the mail yesterday. Honestly don't think I need or want the upgrade and, so, it's not worth the new account ding to me. How do I turn down the upgrade?

Would it be a new account? I would think they would just convert the existing account with the original open date.

I haven't received an invite or mailing, but I would be inclined to turn it down as I don't see any advantage - same rewards 1% WM store, 2% WM/Murphy gas (none around for me), 3% walmart.com. Of course be used anywhere MC is accepted and not just Wamart/Sams, but I have better reward cards for that.

It would be a new account. Synchrony upgraded my JCP to a JCP MC awhile back and, while I got a CLI when I activated the MC, my score dipped from the new account reporting. Not really interested in another dip, don't really use my Walmart card that much as it is, and I get better benefits from my other cards (to echo what you said).

@atarvuzdar according to the ipgarede letter hubby received in Jan/Feb the date to decline by was March 10th (early March at any rate) so I'm not sure how it would work to decline it now. Good luck though.

It's my understanding that this will not report as a new card so you won't get dinged. I chatted with a rep and that's what I was told. I'm hoping that is truth.

Many people have reported that Synchrony card upgrades result in a brand new account reporting (no history is brought over) but as with many things credit it could be YMMV. There aren't too many recent data points, and things are always changing.

That being said, if you're not wanting to chance having a new account report (for example, you're getting ready for a mortgage) I probably wouldn't risk it.

(Also notable is that some people have reported having a brand-new account report even when having a lost Synchrony card replaced (!), so they are 'iffy' at best.)

Hubby's Sam's card with a chip never arrived so the sent it again. It did create a new account, but it had the entire history of the first one. Same thing with my Carecredit account. So it definitely a YMMV thing.

It WILL report as a new account! I have checked on this 3 times since I declined the invitaiton and they ignored that. I was told a few things, no need to worry the account history will stay the same; your history with us will stay the same, but the credit bureau will report a new account opening date.

I wouldn't even activate the card if I could afford it... Would call in everyday to ask a succession of agents to compare stories... You didn't ask for an upgrade did you?

I didn't ask for an upgrade. I didn't want the upgrade knowing that it would be a new account entirely. I rejected the upgrade by calling the number. I called up and asked about the new account situation and rejected the upgrade. I think the upgrade is not necessary for me since I get better rewards for any other card in my wallet or at the very least the same rewards, although I do believe that I do get better rewards on each card I have. I rejected the upgrade the last time they offered it to me.

The only way I would take this upgrade is if they changed their silly policy. They do say that because it is a new type of account that it requires them to post a new account with a new account opening date. It is strange that they choose words that don't have the same meaning to the rest of us as it does to them. It does not require a new account opening date.

I think many people are misled by what they say and the offer. I would love for people who were told that it was not a new starting date to file with the CFPB over it. I would if I didn't know better. I would also if there weren't recorded conversations already on file with them that proved I know the reality. Basically, as long as they didn't know I know, then I would try and call in and ask and get the wrong answer and then contest it directly with the CFPB first and also with them. Trust me, as many times that I have written the EO at Capital One and BofA, I do mean that.

Don't fall for the hype and don't take the upgrade unless you don't have a rewards card in your wallet that already has 1% cash back. The regular Walmart card works just fine if you have even a CapOne card which gives you 1.5%. You get the same benefits with the Walmart card.

So, is this a MasterCard upgrade or a store card to MC upgrade? I ask because I haven't heard a peep from them, then again, I already have the MC...
