Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anybody knows what is the VISA merchant code for hp.com, I tried the VISA webpage where you put the company information and it shows you the merchant code with no luck, does anyone know if it's classified as electronics? I have the US Bank cash plus and I wanted to know whether selecting electronic stores as a category would earn 5% back for purchases made through hp.com, anyone has the card or any visa card and purchased something from hp.com and can verify that? Thanks in advance!

Have no info on Hp.com, however have found many company's have MCC's

that don't report like they should.

I have a Cash+, and before changing to a new category, I test the water.

I call up and ask what MCC code they have, they never know, I then tell them

that it maters as to whether I purchase a large expensive item with them

or not, this has always let me talk them into a $1.00 swipe to test the water.

Just make a small purchase on something you need.

Let it clear, (3-4 days) then download current records as CSV/Text file.

The code used for the transaction is shown.

I have no idea how hp.com codes, but I would encourage you to consider perks related to the purchase and not just cash back. With electronics, an extended warranty and/or price protection could be worth much more than 5%.

Your credit is good enough to have a Cash+, so I'm guessing you may have some card with relevant perks.

@Kforce, yeah, I thought I'd make a small purchase (in case all fails and I can't find an answer) so I can see what it shows up as, I made the mistake of not choosing electronic stores as a category and I wanted to see if it's worth to wait till June to make a purchase, which is pretty big, so 5% would pretty much save me about $100!

I was also wondering how I could see the merchant codes on my purchases through US Bank, thanks for the tip!

@wasCB14, the cash plus card is a VISA signature card that does offer these perks so I wanted to maximize the rewards on this big purchase, if I could!

When you download transactions, it will have a pick-list of formats.

Pick "Microsoft Excel (CSV)" and save to your drive

Open with Excell or any Test/word processor.

The MCC code is the 5 digit number after the 23 digit transaction number,

The data fields are separated by a semi-colon ";".

Actually it doesn't show any transaction numbers in the CSV file when you download transaction, the statement also doesn't show anything other than the reference numbers unlike capital one which shows the type of merchant for every purchase.

Is there a post somewhere on the forums that has a list of MCC codes for different merchants, like BestBuy, Target, Microsoft etc?

Not that I have seen.

I believe the only way to know how a store codes, is to make a purchase,

see the code, and then add the results to your personal data base.

I have a Gym that coded as "real estate sales" and a Walmart that code as "grocery", you never know !!

I got the Gym to change the code so I could get 5% with Cash+,

and use a different card for grocery's at Walmart.

Citi shows the category description, making it a simple look up for the code.

US Bank shows the code making it a simple look up for the description.

None of my cards show both.
