Question on Reward Programs

All the reward programs.... like Amex MR and Chase UR and Citi Ty, etc.... if you get 2 or 3 cards that all have the same rewards program... they all go into one program number correct? So if I charge on my Amex eD and my Amex PRG all the points go to the same rewards membership. Does it work that way with every issuer? I hope this is making sense.

Most of them do, Chase does for sure.

Can't speak from experience but I'm pretty sure all the major reward programs do this.

The Membership Rewards points do, but the Ultimate Rewards go into a bucket for each card. You're able to move those between cards instantly, so it's not really much of a hassle.

Right, I was wondering about the other answers, I would have said as you do, they are separate and you have to move them to combine. So if I go to the Chase portal, I can use my points from Freedom at 1c each for travel, or from CSR at 1.5 c each. So it makes sense to transfer all to the CSR, and you have to do this manually whenever you want to use.

In the past at least, TYP did pool, but also "remembered" where they came from, and if you closed a card, after a while points from that card would expire. Also, points could have different values (or couldn't be moved to partners for example) so not a true combination.

Ty. This makes so much more sense now. I never understood the whole "completed the chase trio" thing. Makes sense now. I guess maybe I should be trying to figure out what reward program I like the best, and then get the 2 or 3 cards for that program I would get the most use of.

Also, you can't move Freedom's UR points to travel partners, so they have to be moved to a Sapphire product first. I do find it a bit odd that Chase more or less treats UR points on Freedom products as cash back and UR points on Sapphire products as points also redeemable for cash back. Again, it's just a few clicks to move the points around so it's not a major headache, plus I do like the fact that they allow you to transfer UR points to a household member's account, which is good since my wife has the Freedom Unlimited, while I have the CSP and Freedom of the "trifecta" (and the Slate, but that's just temporarily holding onto some of my Chase limit until the BT is paid).
