HSBC PreApproval Question

Hey All,

Last night I did the preapproval for an HSBC Platinum Visa w/ Cash Back and was offered that card (I guess if they think a different card is better, they'll list that, i.e. secured...) Anyway, I went ahead and submitted the app. and was told it was under review and I would be contacted in 10-14 days (I then had to choose which picture I wanted on the card).

Does this mean I was approved and they're just figuring out the terms? I'm guessing if I was going to get denied, they would have told me then? Do they ever state the terms right then and there, or is it always 10 - 14 days?

Has anyone else gone this route?

I would call the backdoor number in the thread sticky at the top of this forum with the author name Scamp.

Call and ask them if you have been approved.

You could have received this statement if you were approved or not.

Definitely call now and keep us updated Good Luck

The same thing happened to me when I got a HSBC Weekend card. I ended up calling a few days later and it was approved after I verified my phone number.

HSBC is kind of stupid. I dont know what they were waiting for, because my status online remained as "Reviewing your application" I called the number on the Application Status page and as soon as I provided them with my phone number, they said approved.

Thanks, I just called them and the lending dept. is currently closed. I'll have to call them on Monday. I'll keep you all posted!

Seems like if there was an issue, they would have offered me the secured card when I submitted the preapproval app.

It is hard to imagine these banking giants being closed for the weekend with the internet giving the aura of all things open all the time.

However , I stopped , back when I still apped, doing so on weekends. It guaranties a delay message but then a couple hours after opening you'll have your answer on Monday morning.

So save the angst and don't app on weekends.

So I wanted to give you all an update. I called HSBC to check the status of my app. After answering a bunch of questions to verify my identity the rep. told me I was approved!

The CL is pretty low, $1,050.00. I asked for a CLI right then and after being placed on hold, was denied, but told to try again in a few months after showing a positive payment history.

Anyway, just an update!

zro--if you're still out there, what number number did you call for your recon? The numbers shown on the backdoor number sticky thread appear to be for customer service and not really a backdoor number. The only one that appeared to be a good recon number was the "app status" number, but I called that and it appears to be for business accounts.

ETA: the numbers I was referring to above were for Best Buy. Perhaps I should try the HSBC numbers? Or do I actually need a Best Buy number? Also, I see zro has not logged in for about a month--anyone else have any input?
