Typically when you PC (convert your existing card) you lose out on any signup bonus, so you might be better off applying for it as new anyway.

Banks have product groups and typically you can only convert within that product group. For example, with Chase, I can convert my Freedom to a Sapphire, but not to a Southwest card, because they are in different product groups. It may be the same with Citi.

Also, welcome to the forum!

Hi,

I've been a Citi customer since 2008 and have the Citi Diamond Preferred card. Recently, they keep emailing and mailing me that I'm eligible to apply for their ThankYou Preferred card but I was thinking instead of applying for the card, perhaps I can just upgrade my Diamond Preferred to ThankYou Preferred. I called the customer service to inquire about a card upgrade but they told me that I'm not eligible without really explaining it to me. Is there anyone who had luck getting their Diamond Preferred card to another credit card?

Thanks in advance!

If you are actually interested, the former type of mail, which mostly will also have an offer code (often), is a better indicator of success. It is not guaranteed, but still higher than cold app.

Ugh. Citibank....I do not understand why some people can get a product change and others can't. Recently they changed my Diamond Preferred to a MasterCard from a Visa. "So what?" most would ask, but it was my first ever Visa card and wanted it to stay that way. I called to see if it could be changed to Hilton Hhonors or Costco (the only Citibank cards still available as Visa and no Best Buy does not count)-nope. Yet others here have been able to change their current cards to the Hilton or Costco card. However, they have offered to allow me to change my DP to Double Cash, Thankyou or Dividend. I wonder why you can't change to anything?

They are my least favourite bank. Ugh.
