When will my AmEx report to the bureaus?!?!

Hey all!

Just wondering if anyone knows how long my AmEx BCP should take to report to the bureaus?

I applied and was approved for it on March 26th. My second statement cut on May 25th.

Just wondering if this is normal (this is my first AmEx) or if I should call AmEx and tell them they aren't reporting?

Don't worry...they'll start reporting. Usually within 2-3 cycles. Give it a little more time and they'll show up.

@Loquat, thanks for the response! I hope it reports soon (not like I need it to, I just want it to).

On a side note, do you know how long it'll take my girlfriends Capital One Venture to report to the bureaus for me as well? (I'm an AU).

I only ask because my Quicksilver reported THAT DAY I was approved and I've been on her Venture as an AU since May 9th (hasn't been a statement yet)... Maybe I'm just being too antsy and need to wait for the statement to cut...

Also,

Does anyone know if I apply for another card during this limbo (time between AmEx approval and AmEx reporting to the bureaus), will the cc issuer see the HP from AmEx, but not see the card reporting and think that AmEx denied me?

If so, will that hurt my chances at approval for a card with said cc issuer or affect my SL?

For CapOne AUs reporting I saw my brother's credit report update when I added him earlier this year a few days after the next statement generated. I made sure he used the card a few times just to be safe as well.

As for your other question I'm actually curious to find out what the answer is to that myself.

Yes! You'll be fine on that reporting like clockwork. And as Loquat said AMEX will take a while sometimes but once they do they're good on promptly updating. For example mine a few years ago for my BCE took as long as when my first statement appeared but it can take a few months at times for whatever reason.

45-90 days on new accounts which coincides with the whole reasoning of 61 day rule.

If you can see the HP so can everyone else.

Amex usually takes a few months to show up on your reports. As for apping for another card, go right ahead. Amex knows whats going on in regards to your acconts with them internally—they don't need to check your reports to see that you have other cards open with them. Also I've gotten three Amex cards withing the last 4 months, denials as well as approvals were only a soft pull for me after getting approved for my first card with them, which of course was a hard pull.

My new AMEX reported with the second statement. That seems to be consistent with recent reports around here, although as others have said, AMEX has been known to take longer at times.

I can understand being antsy if you're looking for utilization padding. In my case, my utilization was in check, and I didn't need the padding. Because the card was going to cause a scoring ding for being a new account. I was happy to wait.

Thanks for asking because I was beginning to wonder when mine would report too. I opened mine on May 1st and my first statement cut and is due on 6/14 so I was wondering would it report after that or before. The standard seems to be it will report after. I'm just curious to how much more after.

Question though? When it does finally report, it will show my card was opened on May 1st, right? Let's say it finally reports on July 1st. Will I get "credit" for 2 months of a credit line or will the clock start the first time it reports?

Thanks for the data point. I was referring to applying for a credit card with a different company, not AmEx.

In that case, the cc company would need to pull my report and would see that AmEx pulled my credit, but would not see the new account (because it hasn't reported yet)... Would this lead them to believe AmEx denied me? And would this false belief lead them to give me a lower SL or decline me as well?

Mine just reported today and is showing an opening date of March 1st.

Awesome. I went on an app spree last month and I thought my AAoA was going to take a severe dip but it hasn't been as bad as I thought. The little extra time it takes to report will help a little.

How does Amex report? I'm still confused. My first statement cut and I paid off the balance before the due date. Once they report, will they report the balance that was there when the statement cut or my payment?

It took Amex nine weeks to report my Hilton Surpass to the credit bureaus. They sent the report a few days after the statement due date. Whatever balance you have on the day they report is what will show up on the credit report.

Thanks for both the great questions, and taking the time to update!(I love when OPs do that, it's truly a service to the board!)

I had asked multiple times what date counts for the age, specifically with my AMEX, so your definitive answer really helps out(and was the one I was hoping for as well! ). I just received mine, and have already been wondering when it will report(though I dont have any odd cause to yet, like you did), and at least now this thread has helped me learn it may take awhile, so I can dial back my expectations some and soften the blow. I'm truly grateful to have this information to prvent me from getting worked up in the George Costanza manner I often do.
