BOA secured 99/500 bleep AF got me

I've had this for 12 months now I guess. wasted HPS trying to get unsecured. I paid off my 10% that I used. Was gonna close it, and now today there's a $39 charge, oh darn. Guess all those INQS didn't help.

Check yourself. Cause BOA is a great card that will totally grow. My 99/500 card is at $8000cl now. And their promotional offers are killer. You need to search for the BOA Credit Anaylst backdoor number on here and call them directly and ask for a CLI and unsecured. as long as your Fico score is climbing and you have no new derogtories you should be golden. Stick it out..its worth it. They will remove that annual fee eventually too.

I was approved for this card today and as a rebuilder, I'm happy to have it. Cant wait for it to grow.

As far as I know if you close the card within 30 days of the annual fee being paid, they have to give you a refund.

I'mnot sure how you waste HPs trying to get it unsecured. Call them - stick thread in CC Applications forum here, call the # listed for "Secured & partially secured cards". the rep told me that's actually the # for priority card services. I got my $300 full secured card unsecured at 8 months & fee removed, no HP, calling that #. Unsecured, I didn't use it much with such a low CL & no rewards, I just tossed them Netflix & streaming video rentals. Then earlier this years they gave me an auto CLI to $1800. So I called that # to see if I could get rewards added and the rep told me I qualified for an upgrade to a Cash Rewards Visa w/no HP. Just call and ask, they're very reasonable & helpful.

My friend has a 99/500 that he's had for 16 months?? His score on TU is 743... works for some, doesn't work for some..

If you don't mind me asking, why did you decide to apply for BOA secured in the first place? I'm curious what benefits it provides over other secured like citi secured,boa secured, and Cap1 secure.

Why BOA?

BOA..

(sometimes offers rewards on their secured card if you get the right product).

Only requires 99$ for a 500$ CL... its partially secured... and even with the AF.. they tend to graduate... Unfortunately int he OP's case, it did not...

Not having to pay a full 500$ to have a 500$ CL.. or even 200$ for a 200$ CL.. is definitely a reason to app for this card.. and it is a major/prime bank...

And once the card graduates. it can and often does grow... it can become a real card with very good limits

Also did you mean Discover Secured.. when you re-asked about benifits of the BOA secured over the BOA Secured....

Discover Secured:

Requires a 1:1 deposit for a secured card..

Has rewards and features just like the regular cards...

Tends to graduate from 7-12 months.

Usually a CLI on graduation...

No AF ... (Discover did have an AF when card first came out.. they did away with it.. and it disappeared on graduation)

After the first year you can ask for an apr reduction... every 6 months if you wanted

CLI increases after unsecuring are usually SP....

It looks and smells and acts like a real discover card.... some secured cards are more tiered... and can be a card one keeps for the long term...

Though recently the CLI gravy train has slowed... its still a good offer for a secured card.... even with the APR on the higher side..

That's unfortunate since mine graduated days ago and I'm starting to seek CLI. Maybe they are predicting recession.
