I received an email this morning as I'm sitting at my computer that I have a new bill from Bloomingdales in my bill pay and as I scroll expecting to see "ZERO BALANCE" instead I saw $11,622.41!

You can imagine my shock as I did not shop and I previously had no balance... I immediately called and someone in NYC bought a couple Chanel Handbags WITH my card in hand! (Seems they made a duplicate somehow as I have my card here in Los Angeles! and it through up zero flags in the system and was approved on the spot.

PREMIUM DESIGNER HBAGS2175.00

PREMIUM DESIGNER HBAGS8500.00

Sales Tax947.41

Receipt Total$11,622.41

They, of course, are crediting it back and sending a new card... I asked her if I could keep my new Elite Status and get the upgraded card

omg, LOL...I would have flipped out, and then some. But then again, I have all my alerts set to $1.00 for all my cards, even store cards, that allow alerts.

Plus Im so OCD, I would have noticed that charge that day since I check all acts online daily, lol. Still though.....$11k, and no alert or a phone call to you for any type of security to make sure it was you??? Blooms deserves to eat that then!!

I would've passed out in front of the computer!!

@OP ; Did you have chip (emv) on your card? I read that banks are not liable to cover any fraudulent charges on cards with such chips and that merchants are. Banks cover losses for frauds on non-chip cards. You would think that merchants would ask for an ID with such a big purchase right? Well obviously they didn't!!
Makes my friggin blood boil knowing that someone got away with $11K worth of stolen merchandise!! And that my friend is one of the reasons why we all pay such a high APR on CCs!

Since ID wasn't requested, I wonder if it was a duo team -- the thief and the sales person. Just a thought.

On another note: when I was traveling in AL (reside in Va) and stopped to purchase gas, I received a text requesting verification of the gas purchase. "Press 1 for yes; 2 for no." If more banks took this simple precaution, I believe their losses would decline substantially!!
