Target Red card upgraded to MasterCard.

last week i posted that i received an increase to $3000. well today i checked my mail and i had two letters from Target. one was for the increase. the other one was to inform me that my red card is going to be upgraded to a Mastercard. im surprised i was upgraded with my scores being around 660-675.

Nice job congrats to you , all this talk about all these upgrades and big CLI is making me reconsider actually apping for the Redcard now

The only reason I never went for one was bc of their inability to grow very well

I just got notice in my statement that my limit was upped to 5k, then I opened another letter from Target the next day that states I'm being upgraded to the MC version in August.

Maybe TD is in fully in charge now and they figure that getting the upgrade out is a good thing. It seems there is a spike in posting about this since I did my post. (Which was moved to applications approvals even though I did not apply for either, so I was confused by the move and I am happy yours hasn't been incorrectly classified!)

the nice thing is that unlike Synchrony and the Walmart MC, this is not supposed to become a new account with a new opening date!

Am I the only one who knew what was inside before opening the envelopes?

With regards to the highlighted above...Is this 100% true, that the upgrade to MC is NOT a new account for reporting purposes? That would be fantastic!

They assured me that it was not a new account reported to the bureaus, that it would have the original opening date.

You can't request a CLI from Target, they give you increases every three months if you use the card and keep your income updated. You can call them and unless they have recently changed it, no requested CLIs can be done. You can open a $20,000 credit card one day and open a $300 Target Red Card the next......

As someone who was upgraded to the Target MC last year, I can confirm that it is definitely NOT a new account and all your account history will remain the same. I can also confirm that they still do regular CL reviews...last auto-CLI they granted me bumped me to 11K.

Where was your store card CL at when they upgraded you? I think that might be the factor in getting an upgrade over length of time account has been open.

Well, I've had a Target Redcard since 2010. Starting limit was $2000. Just this year I received an $800 increase to $2800 (this took 7 years).

I use the card maybe once a month for under $100, generally.

I have yet to see a Mastercard upgrade, and doubt I ever will.

Since I have Cap One Quicksilver MC, I don't really care.

I called cs, but they are all in the Phillipines, and really didn't understand what I was asking.

On the other hand, I have read of people who have had the card for one year with a $500 limit who get upgraded to MC with increase to $5000.

Go figure !!

By the way, Discover has just released their 4th quarter categories. As usual, it's Amazon, but now they have Target . . .

Again, I don't care becuase I get 5% off at the register, with the Target Redcard, if I need it.
