The Platinum may still be a Visa. I was expecting the MC because that's what the images all showed and some of the literature referred to, but when it showed up it wasn't. Platinum Visa instead.

I searched the archives without much luck.

Anyone that has done PC on an NFCU card, does it close your old account and open a new one on your credit report?

I just asked about changing my cashRewards to a Platinum as the cashRewards have become useless to me with the USAA LimitLess in my pocket.

They told me that the account number would change and I would be issued a new card.

They could not confirm whether it would be a new account on my credit reports or not.

My experience has varied.

Back when USAA did PCs, it resulted in a new account, with with new aging.

BoA reaged me when my MNBA card became a BoA card with new account number, but not when my obsolete rewards card became a 321 rewards card

Capital One just changed me to a Quicksilver card, no agng issues.

Can anyone here speak from experience?

Thanks.

IIRC, they do remove the old account from your credit report -- but then they put it back, with same age and credit history so it doesn't really change anything. I got a CK notification that an account was removed -- then another one added -- and it was identical to the old card's history. Don't worry!

About 18 months ago I did a product change with NFCU from nRewards to GO Rewards, and they let me keep the same account number along with all the history. However, that was Visa to Visa. I think you are going from Visa to MasterCard when you do a product change from cashRewards to Platinum. Visa and Mastercard cannot use the same number because all Visas begin with 4 and MasterCards with 5. Why do you want to make this change? I would just keep the card you have.

The "products" page on NFCU's website says that the Platinum is available in either Visa or MasterCard. The image shows a MasterCard.
