Hiya,

I personally close my old accounts that I don't use, but in your case, if you've been rebuilding only 2 years ago, I'd go ahead and keep them. They won't hurt to keep and will only help your scores in the long run.

Sorry to hear that the USAA card doesn't graduate. I, too, have opened some dumb cards in my day =D They are an amazing bank, though, and I'd keep any relationship with them in good standing.

So I was approved for a USAA secured card a 2 years ago. I was rebuilding, but didnt know what I was doing. I say that because this card does not graduate and I now don't see any reason to keep it outside of it having a $850 limit all secured which helps my utilization.

Is holding on to this card building me a better relationship with USAA paving the way to an unsecured card? If so, Ill keep it; if not Ill find another secured card that will graduate eventually. I have a Citi Secured and started the 18 month wait about 5 months ago, but are there any other cards that graduate sooner?

May not matter in the end because if my NFCU card gives me a nice CLI at the 91 day mark then Im closing them both!

Apply for an unsecured USAA card before you close it. I had my secured for $250 for 5 months and they approved me for a $2,000 preferred cash rewards visa.

I would close it and get your 850 dollars back. It will still count for your AA of A.

What is your credit score?
