AMEX pushing customers to add AUs?

It seems that whenever I chat with AMEX CRs they always ask me about adding AUs. Can anyone tell me why they seem to push this so hard?

Other than more spend and more money for them? No.

Every time...they are always trying to get me to earn more cash back! I always tell them no, and sometimes they really dig in. I close out the window and go on with my day.

This made me laugh. I'm much too nice to do that. They are pushy and what's worse is I only have a $1000 CL. Like how much of this could I possibly share with anyone???

Got a side question, since this is a fresh topic and likely to be seen. If someone adds me as an AU, does it result in a HP on my report? Never done it, so I have no clue.

No, it does not. But you will not get the cardholder's full history, just the day they add you

@JimBo99. A1Credit is correct about Amex not giving the history of the card. But on the off chance you're thinking about a different card and was just asking because this is a post about AU's, other cards do report the history. It depends on the card.

I received an offer to add AUs to one of my Amex accounts the other day, so if you are going to add one, it may not hurt to hop on chat and ask.

Are they pushing balance transfer checks also? It turns out that balance-transfer checks is a very lucrative way for banks to get money from customers without some customers understanding what is going on. If you study their scheme carefully, it becomes apparent that, the more AU's you have on the same account, the more likley the scheme will work. It does not matter whether the AU's are charging $5 every few days, or $500. What matters is that the account is used often enough so that the balance is never allowed to go completely to zero. As long as the balance never goes completely to zero, even if it is 75 cents, the scheme will work.

According to my spending habbits, Chase and sever other banks would get several hundred dollars per year from me (total) even though I my auto-pay is currently set to "pay in full".

I would think if you were going to add an Authorized user to a card a 1000 dollar credit line is where you would want to do it. That way you aren't liable if they decide to go crazy and charge up 20,000 dollars. You say that can't happen to you but it happened to me when my first wife and I seperated. The saying "Hell has no fury like a women scorned" is based on facts.

No they have not offered balance transfer checks. Do you know of any bank that does? My mom is looking for a good BT card to pay off a high interest credit card. I suggested Cap One but she is worried that they may not give her a card with a high enough limit to be able to complete the transfer.

I can understand your line of thinking on your first point but as a woman I strongly disagree with your second! Surely you did something to bring the wrath of this scorne forth, right?

I feel think they are more pushy the higher the line is...now that it is over $30k, I get the "why not...don't you like more cash back? You can give them to your friends and family!"

I have noticed the last couple times I have called CS, they ALWAYS ask if I want to add someone as an AU to my account. They have been pretty insistent lately.

+1 At this point I am pretty sure they have my kids' 15th birthdays marked down on their calendars, at which time I am more than happy to add them as Platinum AUs.

More people might be inclined to add an AU to their Amex accounts if Amex reported the card's history instead of making the AU's take an AAoA hit by starting it at the addition.
