Hello all,

A spot in my wallet is going to be opening up as i am going to cancel my first ever credit card (Capital one secured that wont increase above a $750 limit). I was just wondering what card everyone recommends for rewards. My current cards are:

Amex Gold

Amex BCE

Chase Saphire Preffered

Wells Fargo Rewards

NCSECU

Wanted to see if there was another card out there similar to the Chase. That is definetely my favorite card! TIA!

Sounds like you want advise on another point/travel card....If you have not already churned the Venture and Barclay Arrival + there are those but only for the sign up bonus.

Otherwise, it looks like you could use a cashback card. USAA Limitless (2.5%) if you are a USAA member; Citi Double Cash(2%) or PenFed Power Cash Rewards (2% if military/or have PenFed checking).

@Anonymous wrote:
I'm kind of confused. When you say transfer UR points, what does that mean?

So, Freedom and Freedom Unlmited are officially cash back cards; however, that cash back is first earned in the form of Ulimate Rewards (UR) points; 10,000 UR can be redeemed for $100. However, since you have the CSP, you can transfer/combine your Freedom Unlimited UR points (if you go that route) to your CSP UR points which once they are associated with the CSP, can be used for great travel redemptions/transfered to airline/hotel partners etc.

I do not have CSP and am completely uninterested in travel points, so maybe someone else can better explain it; but that is my understanding and is the reason a LOT of people here have what they call the Chase Trifecta: Freedom Unlmited, Freedom and CSP or CSR. They use the CSP/CSR for its bonus earning point catagories such as travel and dining; then they use the Freedom for the quarerly 5% catagories and then their Freedom Unlimited for everything not covered by CSP/CSR and Freedom. It is all about maximizing the UR points.

Caveat: Chase may be making changes to this in the near future-though nothing is clear at this point.

What's the difference between the freedom unlimited and the freedom?

It seems to work for people that want to maximize UR point earnings. Like I said though, it could be changed soon and I don't want anybody hating me when they end up with cards that they no longer want

Freedom Unlmited earns a flat 1.5% cash back on all purchases. Freedom earns flat 1% cash back but offers 5% back on different catagories that change each quarter; so for 2017 they offered gas January through March; groceries April through June and are now offering restaurants through September. There are also other smaller catagories that can be added in there but I pay them no mind. Final quarter is usually Amazon and department stores in time for the holidays.

So, in January someone with all three cards may have used their Freedom for all gasoline purchases; CSP for any and all travel and restaurant purchases and then Freedom Unlimied for everything else thus maximizing the amount of UR points earned.

Please do not go on just what I say though; research the Trifecta (not to be confused with the old Trifecta which was Freedom, CSP and a Chase checking accouint) and hopefully others can add to (or correct) what I have told you.

The Freedom Unlimited offers 1.5% in rewards on every purchase. The Freedom offers 5% rewards in designated categories in a given quarter and 1% on other purchases. With the "trifecta," you'd use whichever card gives you the best reward for a given purchase, then transfer the points to the Sapphire to make the most out of your redemption.
