Best for Gas purchases

Hi all, im trying to figure out the best card right now to use for Gas. I alternate each month usually and I just got an amex Everyday and Citi Double cash. I want to use this only for gas and wasnt sure which would be best for points.

If you bank with PNC, their no-AF cash rewards card is 4%. If you have a costco membership, Citi Costco is 4%. There are some CU offers as well.

I just got the BOA Cash Rewards this week for the 3.3% on gas since I don't fall into the above categories. Way better than the 1.5% I was getting before!

In addition to above Sam's Club MC is 5% on gas purchases but the redemption of cashbacks is yearly.

PenFed platinum rewards Visa is 4.6% (5 points per dollar)... one of the better options out there

My PenFed Cash back is 5% and USAA cards are both 5% cash back on gas. Additionally the last quarter that had gas on Discover was 10% for me as I am in a 1 year promotion doubling cash back.

The one thing i would note about those two cards in particular one is a cash back , the other is a rewards card, so they aren't really comparable imo. Some people would value 1 mr>1 % cashback

Yeah i have to Discover IT card, missed the gas promo for that month. Im not sure if I want to apply for any more, maybe ill try for the Penfed card.

4.6%? How do you get that? I would say 4.25% (based on 5880 points getting you a $50 Visa card, or any other gift card that I checked!)

For me the Amex EDP is the go to card for gas. It gets a bad 2 MR per dollar spent on gas. I always hit the 30 transactions a month for 50% extra so the 2 MR is now 3MR. Now, I value MR's at 2 cents each so to me I am getting 6% on my gas purchases.

I'm currently using my Sears card, it's 5% back on gas for the first year.

Does anyone know sears card issued by citi offers 5% on gas and 3% on grocery or dining ( I cant recall)? I just knew about this card today after shopping there.

It does. It is only for the first year, though. 5% Gas 3% Dining 3% Grocery on the first $10,000... Also, offers 2% at Sears and Kmart. 1% on everything else.

If you shop Sears/Kmart a lot it is a great card. It also offers deferred interest financing.

I am actually really happy with the card. I have had an awesome customer service experience 24/7 customer service if I am not mistaken.

It depends on who is runnning what promo. Amex BP. Disco or my Muphy Card. (1st Ntl bank) This summer Murphy card has been running a 15 cent a gal promo. Normally they are 5 cents but few times a year they run the 15 cents.

Penfed Cash Rewards gives 5% on gas if you have a money market account with them. This card was available through a backdoor method in January, not sure if you can still get it.

The BofA Cash Rewards gives 5.25% if you have platinum honors preferred rewards.

I'm not sure it's worth using a Credit card for gas. .10 extra a.gallon would cancel out any rewards, no?? 🤔🤔🤔

It all depends on your own numbers. Some people hardly spend any money on gas, some spend hundreds a month. The price of gas isn't really the issue, it's how much do you normally spend on gas, then take 5% of it. If that 5% is a really small number, then it might not make sense to get a gas card.
