Authorized user.. denied??

Hi everyone,

I recently was approved for an AMEX, have not received the card yet.

Today I logged in and chatted with a rep to add an authorized user. They told me they put in a request and I will receive a letter in 7-10 days.

Does this mean the AU will be denied or there is another issue with my account? Should I call?

I don't know if a delay is normal, but does your intended AU have any bad history with Amex?

If they're 15 years or older. You should be fine.

Given that it's not a "bad history" problem, maybe it's about getting the AU's SSN before sending the card (instead of sending the card and then asking for the AU's SSN)?

Or maybe, with no history at all, Amex wants some other proof of the AU's identity?

If it's your first Amex, maybe they want to see some history with the account?

If the person you added as an AU has defaulted on an AMEX before, the AU will likely be declined and AMEX will send you a letter saying they could not approve your request and that your AU should call if they have any questions.

My husband included AMEX in his chapter 7 bankruptcy for $1,500, and I cannot add him to any of my AMEX cards. We could pay the $1,500 and see if he could be added then, but it's not worth the hassle.

Hey emily15! Before you call check online. Follow the steps below:

Log into your account.
Click on Account Services tab.
Under the Card Management tab select Additional Cards & Custom Limits.
The AU should be listed there.

Idk how long it takes the system to update once an AU has been added but this is a good place to start.

Update!

Called AMEX and rep said I need to receive and activate my card first then I should have no problem adding the AU. Hope he's right!

How long ago did your husband default on an AMEX card. It took me about 10 years to get off of their blacklist

That's odd, when i added my wife, i did it online and the message followed "your AU's card will arrive in 7 to 10 days"

@adrabner. My DH got an Amex BCE a few months ago & tried to AU me....but was denied because I'm blacklisted due to BK13. After having the card 2 months, tried again and they approved it. I now have an AU BCE with my own login that says I'm a member since 2011. I'd say try again periodically.

I did that same week, but was denied. I will keep trying each month, the benefit of being blacklisted is that you don't get a HP on your credit if you are denied
