I definitely think I qualify for the upgrade. I checked online and it says no upgrades are currently available to me. I called Capital One and she said that she did not see any upgrades showing as available on my account. But my FICO scores are in the 740-760 range, my credit utilization is well below 10%, and Capital One itself recently approved me for a World Elite Premiere Dining Rewards card with a 10K CL. I think I deserve the upgrade! The QS One is for 'fair" credit. My credit used to be fair (or worse) but I like to think that it's now good or maybe even excellent. So I should have the QS for good-excellent credit! I don't want to get rid of this QS1 account though, as it is my oldest open account (over 10 years old now) and I don't want to apply for any new cards as I have a lot of recent inquiries from my recent app spree. I don't think they'd approve me for any more accounts right now. I just want to change QS One to QS and think I have a very strong case for doing it. My question here is who specifically could I write or e-mail to get them to seriously consider this upgrade...they don't seem to want to do it on the phone since their computer doesn't show me as "having an upgrade". I think if I write or e-mail someone it might help my cause more.

Did you try the live chat function on the QS1's home page? It's a little chat bubble on the bottom left of the screen.

I think you deserve an upgrade.

But the issue is that QS1s are difficult to upgrade. It seems that it's tough to upgrade a Captial One card with an annual fee into a no-fee card.

I upgraded two QS1s a couple of weeks ago. The advice I got from Capital One was that I should call in each month because offers were few and far between.

I also made sure I used each card each and every month, making charges and paying in full. I didn't necessarily charge a lot, and I usually didn't leave statement balances. After about 11 months of consecutive usage and payments, the offers appeared. I don't know if there's a connection between the usage and the offers. Maybe it was just coincidence or dumb luck. But it sure doesn't hurt to try.

Same boat, I have 750 FICOs all around but no offer to upgrade my 2 year old QS1

The advice I got and that Im going to follow is to consolidate my cards away from AF because I already have a QS

I was waiting for a CLI but they wont even give me one of those right now car is at $2500 but most of my cards are over $10k limits

I had a similar sitation recently.

I had an 11 year old C1 Plat card stuck at $1750 CL with no upgrade offers. Every few weeks Id call to see if there was an upgrade. Nada

I would tell the CSR my complaints and she'd record them

Finally I PIF my bill and even ended up with a credit bal.

Three weeks later I got an upgrade offer to the QS card. I took it

Couple weeks later I hit the CLI button and approved for $2000 increase

Moral of the story

Make sure your account is PIF and complain monthly to a live rep

Now Ive got to try to duplicate this with my 9 years QS1 card

Good luck OP

I have contact Capital One again via online chat. No dice. They are simply not willing to upgrade my QS1 at this time. I guess they really want that $39 AF from me. They have me by my member here though- The account is over 10 years old and I really can't close it because I've opened up quite a few new accounts this year and I need this old card to raise my credit score. I guess I'll keep trying every few weeks. Maybe in a year or two if I still haven't had any luck upgrading then I'll apply for a QS then if they approve it I'll just combine my QS1 into it. Right now I think I have too many recent inquiries to risk applying for more cards.

Good luck!

All 3 of my scores are above 700

Have had my QS1 since 2014 and it's been stalled at $850.

Every time I check the upgrade link it's just the same one I have. I have called and tried social media.

They have this horribly annoying robotic response every time wether it is in written form or on the phone:

'I'm sorry, but there are currently no offers on your account. Just keep trying'.

TBH, I'm getting sick of Cap1. I don't see them as some great CC company. Maybe for starting out, I'd say.

I have a new $7k Discover and a new $10.5k PenFed card.

Why would I want to keep using Cap1's card when they aren't showing any interest in keeping me as a client.

And I've applied for a new card and got denied from Cap1.

They pull all 3 bureaus and I just don't see the point.

The AF is in Dec.

If I can't get it upgraded by then, I will be cancelling my card and just stick to my Amex, Discover, Citi and PenFed cards.

The cards were so old that I didn't want to close or combine them. Had they been open only three or four years, I'd have combined them into my QS card in a heartbeat.

All I can say is use the card every month, pay in full every month, call every month, and hope for the best. You can probably absorb one more annual fee, but you don't want to let that go on forever.

The bottom line is that the QS1 isn't a long-term keeper. Don't let the card get so old that it's going to drastically change your AAoA or AoOA (age of oldest account) if you close or combine it. If you get it while you're in the building/rebuilding stage, you're likely to have other cards that are about the same age. If it can't be product-changed within a year or two of opening it, closing or combining won't have enough of an effect to worry about.

When people ask, I always recommend the no-fee Platinum over the QS1 because it's so much easier to PC. Because there's no fee, if it can't be product-changed or combined, there's no harm in letting it reside in the sock drawer.

I started with the platinum $300 limit...after I completed the steps program they auto increased my limit to $2300. Was at that limit for about 6 months and then I suddenly racked up charges due to unforseen dental work. I guess Capital One saw my use of the card as a positive and they auto increased me again to $5300 limit. At that point I Pc'd the card to the Quicksilver. Coming up at 6 months since my last credit limit increase. Will be interesting to see if I can get more seeing as I've put more heavy usage on the card while still maintaining less than 25% util when the statement cuts. Anyway, Capital one has definitely opened doors for me and I am very grateful. Seems that with healthy/responsible use of the card will lead to promotions. Best of luck.

Capital One is primarily a sub prime lender. Once you've graduated, they know you probably won't be using their cards much, hence they want to capture the AF if they can. Basically, its just an intelligent business decision for a company that focuses on the sub prime niche.

I spew a lot of verbal negativity towards Cap1, but I am still thankful that they gave me my first unsecured card.

For that I am grateful

Don't get me wrong, they have offerings that can compete, I use the Spark for my business.

However, their primary revenue stream is sub prime (not just CC), and thats where they invest the most resources and it's why they've acquired other companies that had the same specialty. That's definitely their niche and where they get the most profits.

I had the "upgrade card" button on my account a couple of weeks ago and when I clicked it it told me my card was not eligible.

I went on to chat with a CSR a week or two later (just the other day) to ask if there is any way to upgrade to a card with no AF, CSR said no.

Seeing as how cap 1 will be my only AF card, I am considering keeping it for maybe another year (one of the oldest accounts) and letting my newer cards with no AF age and have their CLI's. $39 isn't too bad, but hopefully I will have the chance to upgrade before March when my AF hits.

My first card, when I did not even have fico scores, was Amex. The second, no fico yet, was Cap1. The third one, also no fico yet, was Penfed.

I just wonder when someone call major banks a sub prime, if they even know the definition....... Obviously I had very poor credit history... And Amex APR was higher than Cap1. That makes Amex a sub prime?? When you say something in public, at leat know the meaning.

Regarding QS1 to QS:

Last July I got QS1 @ 1,000... Six months later 3,000 and another six months later 7,000 and pc to QS. Cap1 also gave me 15,000 Venture exactly a year later.

I dont know what their internal scoring system is like.... but my spending was not high and I have not paid a penny interest yet. I tried to PC to QS once when they increased CL last Jan thru chat. No offer, I was told.

Then when Cap1 increased QS1 to 7,000, they offered me either QS or Venture1.
