ABOC Platinum Rewards Card

I just saw this card from Amalgamated Bank of Chicago....APR as low as 13.65%, no annual fee, no late fees and 12 months 0% APR.

I was just wondering about it and wondered if anyone in the forums has this card.....I did a search on the forum, but the only posts were old.

I don't have much to offer other than I just applied online and got "you will hear from us in approximately 14 days." I'm curious if others have input.

What is the appeal of this card? apr is high, 1 point per dollar spent, but what are the points worth? it has a foreign transaction fee, etc.

I don't see why this card is useful, other than for a signup bonus.

I didn't apply, but was wondering about them.....I knew that this bank was started by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union and that they also offer credit cards with better terms exclusively for Union members, but don't know much about them.

so i was just wondering if any of you ever applied? i applied out of curiosity and now they are offering 0% for 12 months.. i got the same message you will hear from us in 2 weeks.. so i searched for a way to find application status and came up with a phone # for the bank of 312-822-3000.. rep who answered said response could take up to 30 days and theres no way to check response is only by mail... ok then lol

Thanks for testing the waters on this one and sharing what you learned so far.

Keep us updated.

Hopefully they like to build new card customers and dispense high lines out of the gate too.

I asked about this card a couple of years ago.

Finstar and a couple of others had a bit of knowledge.

The consensus was ?..meh...

I applied for this card a few months ago. The customer service was so rude when I called to check the status. They kept saying we don't know anything and you'll be notified by mail. Well turns out when I got the letter, the letter said they had been trying to reach me but were unsuccessful. Hogwash. Anyhow, I told them to cancel my application. They wanted to verify my identity. I suppose it could have been an approval but the customer service acted as if it was a mom and pop operation.

Yes they pulled my credit. I think it was EX. I was so fed up with them when I called. They literally put the phone down (not on hold) and went and spoke with someone and came back to me, as if I didn't just hear the conversation.

so today i was wondering of the status of my app as it had been 10 days.. so i found an email on their website: customerservice@aboc.com and sent an email.. well i got an automated response back from them saying to call 800-365-6464 and select option 5(this number is different than the number online).. so i call.. guy tells me the same, correspondance only by mail but that he could see something was mailed to me on the 13th, which was this past wednesay, but that he couldn't see whether it was approval or denial or request for info..

will post another followup when i get this mysterious letter in the mail...........

edit: about 90 minutes after the phone call i got an email that said: Thank you for your inquiry. Our records indicate you application has been processed and you can expect to receive a notification within the next 7-10 bus days..

also i'll email the moderator to have them add this number and what the options are into the backdoor number list

so.. ended up getting a letter from fnbo to which i said i never applied for them but it was for "bankcard" which is where the email was from..

got denied for too many inquiries lol... hopefully the next person who tries has better luck!
