I had BCE and for Gold and other AMEX cards, HP was used. I got Gold but not approved for AMEX Macy's.

Then you're an exception. Could have something to do with your card not even being listed on AMEX's site.

It is well known around here and Flyertalk that an AMEX denial after you're an established customer is a soft pull. Lately I've been hearing about soft pull approvals too, and I can likely vouch for those people because when I applied for my Hilton Honors card a couple of months ago, it did not result in a HP.

Let the OP take the well known advice from the majority, not the very few exceptions.

Let me add that two applications in one day won't result in two hard pulls either. Will the BCE be manually reviewed if you're approved for the Green or PRG right before it? Most likely, but it's a soft pull based on information from the first application's hard pull.

I'm a rebuild error who still has a long way to go, all scores 648 to 655 ex to eq.

I went on the Amex pre-qual site today and all I qualify for is the green or gold card. I really want the bce. I still have negatives on my reports BTW. How accurate is the pre-qual for Amex?

Hi DV....can you refresh my memory...any BK?

My scores are higher but I have a BK on file. When I pre-qual, I had the PRG, BCE, ED and Plat. I wanted the SPG. To play it safe, I got the ED. Then I thought, I should get what I want, so apped and got the SPG, a few days later.

Im not sure of the difference in UW in the charge and cc, or I would say just apply for what you really want.

Dv

Even if the BCE showed as being prequalified, there would be no guarantee of an approval. At some point if you want the card then you'll have to take a chance and apply. A HP really isnt that big of a deal and the effects of it on your score are minimal. You're likely to lose more points by opening a new account if you were approved than anything from the HP. Good luck if do you apply.

The underwriting for the revolvers are a lot higher then the charge cards. You scores are boarder line i would say. Why not get the PRG and build a relationship with Amex then apply for the revolver. The PRG is free for the first year.

It's hard to figure Amex approval process. I've read of those who have BK on file getting approved. I've had Amex in the past (2007) and was recently approved for Delta Gold yet was declined for Green charge card. I've read of those with a better credit score get denied by Amex.
