Weird Care Credit Mastercard

So I logged in to check my care credit account and get hit by a POP UP saying that I have an additional account to add to my current profile???

Kinda panicked since I haven't applied for any other Synchrony/carecredit product. It was for a mastercard version and only gave me the option to add now or later??

I quickly added it to look and view address associated with it etc... and to jump on chat to see whats going on.

I'm well aware of the synchrony upgrades and how it gets reported as a new account and that was definitely not something I wanted. After I saw my personal info was the same etc...I felt a bit better but immediately turned from worried to upset.

'On my profile, it shows as an additional account so immediately jumped on chat to ask why I was given a new account WITHOUT my consent or choice? Nowhere in the language of the pop-up did it say anything about the upgrade, or give me really any choice. The message stated that I already had the account, not if I wanted it.

The Rep looked into it and came back with....I was selected and upgraded to the Mastercard and that it was automatic based on history, credit blah blah.

I explained that I didn't want a new account on my credit report and didn't appreciate not having a choice. He then explained that it will NOT be a new account, just upgraded and all my history and open date will be transferred to the master card.

I asked if he was sure and he replied YES. I asked him to note the account with what he just told me and he said that he has already done so.

I copied the chat just in case. I'm ready for a battle just in case he is misinformed.

Tried looking it up here and on other sites....but nothing.

Is this something new for synchrony? Has this happened to anyone else here?

Same thing happened to me. Now I have two care credit accounts. Weird since I have not received any communication about upgrading.

Edit: Hopefully the financing options stay the same and the rewards are not great but better than getting nothing. Since this would be a MasterCard lets see if we can get SP CLIs (like Marvel).

You know the limit yet?

Does it close the store card or give you a 2nd card and limit?

Both of my cards (with different numbers) are showing on my online account. Both have the same limit, the old has a balance and the new one doesn't. Maybe they are in the process of moving it over?

The limit is identical to store card but it shows as 2 separate cards.

I asked the chat rep about this and he told me that once I receive my new card and activate it the other disappears.

Also, the statement dates are EXACTLY the same. This gives me some hope that he is correct about the upgrade.

I just got the same message logging into my Care Credit account, as well. Hopefuly your chat rep is correct about this keeping the same history, although that would be a change for how Sync usually does things.

I just noticed because I saw OP's post and decided to check my account. Haven't received any new account or account change alerts.

I’ve been dying for an upgrade on this since last year when a few select people from I think just California and Utah got them. I wonder if they’re going to offer the upgrades more than just as a pilot run? Seems like it. I am crossing my fingers I’ll get an upgrade offer. Just logged in and no change.

I think the issue is not about the auto upgrade but of how it will report. Sometimes an upgrade can report as a brand new account and not include the previous credit history which can impact the AAoA. Most of the time upgrades are optional and if they are not companies send some kind of letter weeks even months in advance.

Synchrony is known to close an old account and open a new tradeline which has NEGATIVE effects on your credit.

When I got my first mortgage I was borderline (two points to spare)... having a brand-new account suddenly report would have been disasterous.

I know in the past Synchrony upgrades have reported as new accounts, but in those cases the cardholder was given the option to opt-out of the upgrade. Since the Care Credit upgrades seem to be decided unilaterally (with no opt-out) I hope the CSR reports of the old account history carrying over are accurate.

If Sync handles this the same way they handle all of their other upgrades, then I'm opting out. I'm trying to get under 5/24 and I really don't want Care Credit to push me away from it.

Man that makes no sense you wouldn't rather have a CareCredit MC vs. a CSP/CSR along with bonus ?

Can anyone who has received this upgrade provide some geographical data points? What states do you all resident in? I know the pilot wave of upgrades was targeted to certain states and I’m wondering if this one is the same. Thanks in advance.

same thing here no notice i went on to pay it and it said i had another account, i was a little freaked out saw it was a master card, and thought it was fraud, so chatted and got the same story due to your excellent credit history with us we have upgraded your account to a mastercard, you will now be able to use it anywhere mastercard is accepted..... i pushed on the new account and they said nothing changes promo bals i have will transfer over and it will not show as a new account. i will be checking the reports when i finally get it
