Ok. Finally got the PenFed PowerCash Card and activated it. Set up the app on my Android phone and also on my Ipad.

1. I can't find where to activate notfications for purchases, etc. Even on their main webpage, I do not see an option for alerts (sent to email) for credit card purchases. I get, credit card payment due in 10 days, card payment overdue, credit card payment posted. But, not purchases. Am I missing something. Does PenFed not offer alerts for purchases?

2. Also, when I try to enact travel notifications, I'm told that this feAature is not available to new accounts. Huh? So, how long is this supposed to last? Can I not travel with my card?

Anyone that could provide insight would be greatly appreciated.

That's weird, when i enable travel notifications, i go to Menu/Tools/Travel Notifications on the app.

For the rest of the notifications go to Menu/Click on the gear on the top left corner/Notifications/Click on the account you want. You should be able to see the check boxes there. When done, click save on the top right corner.

Their website/app are outdated!

When I go to the menu and notifications the only options are Credit Card payment due in 10 days, credit card payment overdue and credit card payment posted. There is no option for notifications for credit card purchases. Same thing on the website. This is really weird!!!

And when I do travel notifications, it says this service is not available to new members. Please contact Member Services.

So weird. Haven't had this issue with my other three cards. Take that back, when I first got NFCU, they weren't doing purchase notifications on the app. Then, they added purchase notifications to it maybe a month or so later IIRC.

It's pretty hard to have real time purchase notifications if your website doesn't even post them in real time, just saying.

Penfed is great for customer service and nothing more. Now that I've re-joined Navy I'm going to call Penfed for the second time and have them close my savings account and overdraft line of credit they left open for me after I closed my checking account.

Thanks MountaindewVoltage and C00mtg. Both of you have provided great info.

Maybe I will call in if the travel notification issue doen't right itself in a few months. Instead, I'll be giving my spend to the Paypal 2% mastercard that I received the same day. I am out of the country alot for work and I can't be limited in where I use my card. Hopefully, it will sort itself out soon.

Also, I'm glad to hear they will be getting updates to their system. Looking forward to that. The APR for their credit products is very competitive and one pull gets used for 30 days I believe. However, being the second largest CU in the US, it's a shame that they are so behind with their tech. Let's see what the new changes bring. Hopefully the credit card/checking push/email/text alerts and more.

I've been with PenFed for 30 years, and they're great. They do, however, have some rules for new members, and I suspect they want you to call in with your travel notification for the first few months. For established members, the online travel notifications work about as well as any other financial institution (but don't get me started on that topic, because I don't like how any of my four financial institutions handles travel notifications). As for purchase notifications, they have never had that, but I don't think NFCU has it either. You have to open the app or the website and see the purchases for that day. It isn't like Chase.

I just bought something yesterday and the push notification showed up immediately. NavyFed also has an online banking system that shows the transaction as pending as soon as you insert your card into the reader, unlike Penfed where it takes days to show up. The real kicker with Penfed is when you want to 'immediately' transfer funds from Paypal to your account via debit card and it doesnt show up for three days, whereas I did it with my Schwab debit card and the money showed up instantly.

Navy is also improving their online and app interface as well, so I'm sure they'll be throwing some new features in there.

You should be able to see the check boxes there. When done, click save on the top right corner.

Their website/app are outdated!

Thanks C00mtg.

Last year, when my card was new, I had to call them when I traveled outside the USA. They manually set the notification for me.

The APR for their credit products is very competitive and one pull gets used for 30 days I believe. However, being the second largest CU in the US, it's a shame that they are so behind with their tech. Let's see what the new changes bring. Hopefully the credit card/checking push/email/text alerts and more.

I too am interested to see what the new updates will bring! I will use the card more if it has the notfiication features. As I am abroad alot, I really like having the notifiations. My Discover, Capital One card and NFCU are instaneous. Hope PenFed does the same with its updates.
