Chase CSP Selected for you email, Ad or pre-approved?

I received an email from Chase inviting me to apply for Chase Sapphire Preferred today.

There is a "Selected for you" text with a green checkmark in the email.

However, when I logged into my Chase online account, there was nothing in my Offers tab.

I have clicked on the Pricing & Terms link, and the provided APR is a range instead of a specific number.

Is this just an advertisement or it is actually a pre-approved / pre-qualified offer?

It's a marketing ad to get you to apply. It's not a preapproval of any form.

I don't remember seeing a single data point of someone not being approved when they get a preselected green check mark offer. I got 2 cards early this year that I would otherwise have been ineligible for since I am past Chase's 5/24 rule. Just make sure the offer has one APR listed (not a range), and only asks for your annual income and to place a checkmark that you agree to the terms.

I'm not sure if it varies or not, but I just ask for a personal banker and then say "Do I have any offers available on my account?"

My Chase branch is a pig trough that is always overrun with people, so I don't go to the branch too often to check. I have 10 other branches 15 minutes away from that one but I really like my bankers and whoever makes the free coffee because it's better than most bank free coffee. Every time I do go into that branch I get a cup and transfer $1 into my "didn't buy coffee today" account, lolol. $173 from Chase coffee alone!

Hmmm we have no Chase retail branches left in Boston. Wonder how the coffee is at the Chase Private Bank location here? Can I make an appointment to discuss how they could help me if I had $25 million or more to put into an account? Seriously, though, the bank coffee story cracks me up.

I am literally one of the most efficient spenders in the galaxy because I do "pay myself" whenever I score a deal.

I even transfer to my "coupon/savings account" whenever something I regularly buy at the grocery store is on sale! "Oh, Cheerios are $2 off per box? I'll buy 12 and transfer $24 into savings".

But most bank coffee is horrible. MB Financial was so much wreckage that they discontinued offering it except at their HQ branch. But the mortgage group has an espresso machine! All I have to do is walk in and say "What are rates today?" and wait for my tiny mug of life.

When you sit with a banker tell them you want to see if you have any pre-approvals.

ABCD2199...I kind of wish that I liked coffee so I could research your findings further

It doesn't mean you won't get approved though. Unless your score is on the boarder line or fall into one of the issuer's hard rules like Chase's 5/24, I think people put too much stock in pre-approvals. I have applied and were approved for 9 cards (9 out of 9) since April and only Discover was a pre-approval, I checked most pre-approval sites before applying and like you, no offers.

The reason I am skeptical is that I am fairly new to credit (less than 6 months), with a credit history that short, getting pre-qualified for CSP is quite unusual.

Anyway, I'll check in branch before applying since I would like to avoid unnecessary hard inquiries.

Pre-qual site and selected offers for you are different sites that show different results.

Selected offers in your account are typically more solid than the pre-qual site. When you click on "Offer Details" in the email, is the APR a range or is it fixed?
