Has anyone else with Good credit had any issues with being approved for a citi bank co branded credit card? I was denied by sears and best buy with a 760 fico score very low untilization and no baddies! I do have a few new accounts but I m not asking for one of their "prime" cards I'm asking for a best buy card for pete sakes. I see issues like mine all the time! both business's are struggling to make it in todays economy you think they would partner with a bank that gives out credit?!

What was the reason given for denial?

Not sure if any of these numbers work anymore or cover cobranded cards, but check the backdoors thread for a Citi recon number or maybe try any of these (found on Google): 800-695-5171, 888-201-4523, or 866-606-2787

This thread discusses Citi Sears recon: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Sears-card-recon-HELP/td-p/4684831

This thread discusses Citi Best Buy recon: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Best-Buy-Recon/td-p/4660987

Also try the EO if all other attempts fail.

the sears card flat out denied me! the reason was too many new acocunts....with best buy it wasn't a flat out denial but a "we reseived your app and need more time" in most cases its a denial....I have two citi account that are both 1.5 years old in good sanding. I never burned them in the past or anything. I'm confused! I know the standards for their "prime" cards are high and should be be but with a best buy credit card? wth? and thanks for the info I do appreciate it.

Citi can be inquiry sensitive, did you have more than 5 inquiries in the past 6 months from the bureau they pulled?

Also what is the age of the most recent new account on your profile?

@Anonymous wrote:

Has anyone else with Good credit had any issues with being approved for a citi bank co branded credit card?

Approved? No. But I got their Home Depot card about 6 years ago with a not-great $1250 starting line. Took a HP once or twice a year trying to get that raised and ran thousands of dollars through it, with no luck. Spotless history, just used to have very high utilization until just shy of 2 years ago and scores were in the low 700s for much of that, and 730s at the end. Actually got denied for the last time right before Citi approved me for the Diamond Preferred with mutiples of that limit. Meanwhile, I see many people with less-than-perfect credit getting 5-digit credit lines on the Home Depot card - it makes no sense. I apped for the Lowe's card from Synchrony last year, got instantly approved for multiples of my HD limit then immediately called them and had it raised to $17,000 in a matter of minutes. I immediately closed my Home Depot account, as well as the Shell and NTB cards I had with them. Now my Lowe's card is at $25,000 - 20 times my Home Depot limit! The retail card and credit card sides seem to be very different experiences for a lot of people. FWIW, DW has had a Best Buy card for decades (well before Citi owned the account) and they had no problem granting her a CLI from $2k to $10k last year - so certainly YMMV as our household has seen it go both ways.

I did the same thing with my home dept card...I cancelled it and went with Lowes....seems to me that Citi is bad for business. If your credit card backer won't give credit what use are they?!
