American Express green card, is it worth it?

I was wondering if the American Express green card worth the inquiry. I currently have the delta gold card but today I was pre qualified for the green card.

I have the Green card and honestly, there's really not much benefits that you can get out of it. I would consider the PRG if you spend enough to justify the Annual Fee. If you qualified for the Green Card, you should have a good shot at getting the PRG since the underwriting for charge cards would be the same.

Since you're already an AMEX cardholder they'll only do a SP for the app. But to answer your question honestly no it's not worth it; it's the bare minimum of MR earnings and the AF on it even if the first year is free makes it worthless IMO. If MRs are to your liking I'd go with the Everyday or Everyday Preferred depending on how your spend is.

I know one guy with the Green card and he only got it because he needed a card to store his MRs with after he closed down whatever other high fee card he had. No idea why he did that, but that's the story he's told. Never saw him use the thing. 1% MRs isn't very good anymore.

The AMEX everyday card earrs MR points. It comes with a sign up bonus, and doesn't have an annual fee. You get 2x points in supermarkets, and 1x points on everything else. You also get a 20% bonus in MR if you make 20 or more purchases per billing cycle. The green card earns 2x points at amex travel, and 1x points on everything else. There isn't a sign up bonus, and there's an $95 annual fee. It's basically an entry level card that earns MR. For that reason, I feel that the EveryDay card is much better. If your spend can justify the annual fee, then get a PRG. Otherwise, I'd skip the green card and get an EveryDay card.

Agreeing with everyone else here. If you have the Delta card already, then it's assumed that you may actually fly Delta at least once or twice a year? You can get up to $100 on PRG or $200 on Platinum each year with statement credits on Delta "incidentals" to offset the increased annual fee, and the MRs can convert to Delta SkyMiles if you so wish. The underwriting appears to be identical for green, gold and platinum so if you really want a charge card I'd decide if Premier Rewards Gold or Platinum best fits your spending. The iconic green card really doesn't have much going for it at this point.

Only reason I got it was to add 25K MR points to my Amex spree (all SP) back in August. Didn’t cost me anything, not even a hard pull. I have no intention of keeping it past the year. If they make me a retention/upgrade offer I can’t refuse then I might consider it otherwise this card is permanently sock drawered. I met the spend with part of a mortgage payment so it never even made it to my wallet.

AMEX Green - Not worth it - Members get it to get the bonus, but worthless after that. It's not 100% for sure that you will not get a HP...Yes, most are SPs for new applications, not all. If you can't justify the fee for PRG or Platinum, do not get either. What are you looking for in the card? cash back? MRs? BCE is always a good card to have, as most of us have to buy groceries, gas and you'll get cash back to use as credit.

Nah it's honestly not worth it. I have it, I PC'd from the PRG to the Green. It doesn't have a great MR structure, it's not worth the AF honestly. I plan to close it once I app for the EDP, whenever that may be...

There are better Amex cards. Which one depends on what you need/want and where you spend. We have the BCP which is a heavy use card and then the plain Blue Cash when we max out the BCP grocery.

I have the Green Card and I think it's worth it just to get in with AMEX. You can always upgrade it in a year before the annual fee or close it then.

I like it because since it's a charge card, the reported balances doesn't impact your utilization, making it very handy for me at this stage when I don't have a lot of high-limit credit cards. I can put a lot of my monthly spend on it without having to worry about what reports as long as it's paid by the due date, which nearly a month after the statement cut.

It isn’t worth the $95 annual fee. Whatever your goal is, you can achieve it with many better cards.

It is worth it for the 25k points. That is worth 250 dollars. You can get all the charge cards so I don't see the negative to getting the card other than lowering your average age of accounts. I would get the PRG first though as you get 200 dollars of airline gift cards plus 50k points. Heck get the both ad you have 75k points.

That’s what I did. I got the green, PRG and EDP on the same day for 105K total bonus points.

The green card is also useful as a way to get upgrade offers to the PRG or Plat which can get you bonus points even if you’ve already gotten a signup bonus on those cards before.
