I would say bring down your util from 40% that your currently in to between 10-20%. that would give your score a boost. they're pretty strict with their guidlines these days, very sensitive with negatives. but don't lose hope. one more thing, be wary of where you apply also. (AMEX, Discover) are big no no with negatives. maybe you can get in with BofA or chase. Citi, a little shaky right now.

How many inquiries do yo have on your reports? Also try paying down balances as much as possible to decrease utilization. If only a few inquiries, then I would go for a Chase then BofA. If denied definately recon both. good luck

I applied for a Chase and a US Bank. US Bank denied me within 30 secs and Chase gave me the "your application is being reviewed. You will receive notification within 30 day" classic.

What do you mean by recon? Reconsider? If so, how is that done?

Thanks for your help

I just did this last night with chase...Call 1-888-245-0625. Be really nice and say, "Hi, I recently applied for a credit card and I wanted to check on my application status." then she goes over your app, is she says you were denied b/c of whatever, then say would you be willing to reconsider my application? and thats what worked for me. I had to call twice second time worked. They pulled EQ for me and it is 630. Good Luck

It's a little late now, but your util is waaaaay too high.

My (unasked-for) advice is to never apply until your scores and reports have been polished up as best as you can, and that means total util under 9% with only one or two cards reporting a balance.

The banks have too many reasons to say no these days. Even if you're approved (I'm using "you" in a general sense here, not OP specifically), you won't get as high a limit, you're more likely to get annual fees, and your APR will be higher. Worst of all, you might be give a card with a built-in ceiling, and the card will never grow with you.
