Another "Junk" card closed!

So I just called to close my "Total VISA Card" account and wanted to share my little victory.

I opened this card about 2.5 years ago back when my credit score was in the 400's. It started with a $300 limit and has grown to $550.

I'm finally at a point where I don't need to pay the $7/mo plus $48/yr that it costs just to keep the card open. I still have the Credit One Bank account open because I'm not at the point where I'm paying any fees but I intend on closing that as soon as they start charging fees.

For those who are curious, I got no retention offers when I said I was closing it due to the fees. There agent said she "submitted the request to close my account" and that it takes 2-3 days to process.

She also said I wouldn't get any confirmation that the account was closed so I'm going to call back in a week just to double check that they didn't slip in another monthly servicing charge. I don't want to have a 30 day late over a $7 bull**bleep** fee.

Congratulations! I'd also check your credit reports, once it's closed, that it's actually reporting closed at a zero balance, just in case!

They should of provided you a snail mail confiration upon request... Believe it is the law if you ask for it. Anyways, just make sure it is indeed close within a few days and not "accidenty" left open.

Holy hell $48/yr +$7/mo?! Wow and here I felt preyed on with my 25% $200 starter capone plat card when I started picking up the pieces. I've often seen the names of the predator rebuild friendly lenders here but never really looked into the terms. Yikes. Congrats on dropping that albatross!

If you are worried, you can send a certified letter (return receipt requested) stating you are confirming you wish to close your account as stated in your phone call on X day.

1+ on checking the balance every month for 2 whole months (60 days). I got hit with a 30 day late from my apple credit card even after paying it off , and asking if there were any residual charges . I got a 0$ statement that month and then missed a 3$ accrued interest charge the next month since I was no longer logging into the account . It has been six years and six months since and that 30D is still on my credit. And no they would not take it off dispite letters and calls. BarcleyCard is on my never list.
