Anyone here know about this upgrade offer to the BCE Preferred? I saw this on my account and clicked Request Upgrade. Said I'd receive new card soon.

You've had a lot of Amex love lately!

Amex is constantly offering upgrades to people so its no surprise they would offer you the Preferred version-it will net them an AF where before there was none. Use it correctly and you can more than make up for the fee.

The awards category increases for grocery spend and theres an annual fee attached. How long have you had the card before you were offered the upgrade? I've had mine for less than 6 mos.

Ive gotten this offer a couple times in the year that ive had my BCE. I keep passing it up thinking that it only came with an AF. Are there additional rewards to having the preferred card??? Am I missing out? Maybe theyll finally give me my CLI if I upgrade....

I would wait and keep checking your offers and get a new BCP when it shows up if you really want one. Starting CL will be huge, and usually no HP involved. At least, that was how it worked for me. Plus, you get the starting bonus of $200 with $1K spend in 3 months.

As far as a signup bonus then yes there is; dunno what is the best one for the card at the moment but any offered upgrade probably will not be as good as getting the signup bonus as a new card app. For returns it's 6% groceries and 3% gas/select department stores, and 1% everything else up to $6,000.

Instead of waiting for an upgrade offer, I applied for a new BCP with $150 SUB and 1 year AF waived, doubt any upgrade offer would match that. No HP.

upgrades are not available until 12 months from account opening. It is a law that a creditor can not change the annual fee of an account for 12 billing periods.

Also all reward categories go up. 6% on groceries (up to 6k), 3% on gas and dept stores 1% on everything else. instead of 3% 2% and 1%.

I've had my BCE for over a year. Ugh, AF for only a few more ticks on savings.

While I am not a fan of the BCP, the "few more ticks" is understating the advantage on groceries, going from 3% to 6% can be significant. If you spend more than about $3,200 a year on "groceries" (which can include gift cards to other places if your supermarkets sell them) you will get more back on the BCP after AF than on the BCE

If you spend less, then not worth it. Like any AF card, your spending pattern, other cards and goals determine whether the fee is worth it.

I got the offer about a month ago and took it. It was $150 statement credit. I do use the card enough to justify the AF. I'll most likely keep it a year and then PC back to the BCE until they offer me another upgrade offer. As a note I have the BCP and PC'd to the BCE after a year. I had the BCE for about 7 months and then got the upgrade.
