(Tried to reply to an old thread but I guess you can't as part of the forum upgrades?)

Had someone try to charge a bunch of money at Boost Mobile and Walmart.com so I got a call from fraud protection. They said this again, "since you're a high value cardmember" as she was overnighting my platinum card and telling me not to let it stress me out and enjoy the holiday. I don't talk to them much, but they've said it every time. I do spend >100k/yr. No centurion invite yet but then again I haven't asked either lol.

I'm just curious what kind of perks you might get with the HVCM tag? I'm loyal to Amex, they've been good to me.

Of interest, was getting donuts last night and they were taking a long time at the window to get my card back. It looked like maybe they were having printer paper issues, but now I'm not so sure...

Not really. (which is why I wanted to reply to the original thread)

What I have found is that HVCM is a designation Amex uses in their job listings, and pooka89 (a former amex emp) confirmed it exists. I'm really interested in what those with that tag could expect so that I can take advantage of it.

Also to be invited for the centurion card (black) you need to spend excess of 250k+ a year among other unknown things to get an invite to apply and fork over more money.

Also in my research, thats not true either. Sure, high spend is important, but there is no set number. There are tons of people who spend well over that and ask over and over for an invite. There are others that are high spend but not over 250k that have gotten invites. There really is an interesting criteria to it. I think its consistent high spend that matters to them. Maybe over 250k gets you on the radar but it does not guarantee anything. FT is a good place to learn about it since they seem to have a decent number of members with centurions. I may ask this question over there.

I think in addition to consistent annual spend requirements there are also income and net worth thresholds that must be met to get an invite. Of course, I can imagine that people who are exceptionally well endowed in one category may get a pass in another if they are close but it's all hearsay.

As for high value cardmember, AmEx is known to do extra things for people they like. DoC recently reported a fresh round of "gifts" that AmEx has been doling out to their valued plat cardholders. And who knows what sort of extra effort they put in behind the scenes to keep these HVCMs happy.

high valued cardmember is nothing more than a customer service spiel. I work for one of the big banks and unless you have a total of $250k in asset with us, ur nothing but just another account number. While we have to acknowledge those segments of client with a special designation, I personally chose to address everyone as a high valued client cos personally I feel these designations are preferential in nature. Everyone regardless of the size of their asset or net worth is highly valued just by nature of doing business with the bank. But I can't speak for Amex, it might really mean something over there but for the company I work for, those words only holds some weight if u have $250 stackz

Sorry for my delays. I don't log on from my cell phone anymore ever since the atrocious forum redesign. It looks like K-in-Boston brought up my previous answer though -- it doesn't really mean much in terms of "perks" or quality of service. It's just for informational purposes for various departments based on spend, tenure, loyalty, our "share of wallet" (do you pull an AMEX out for every swipe, or is it that naughty "M" or "V" word), types of charges, etc.

Hope this helps.

Hope this helps.

atrocious is the perfect word to describe it. i despise the redesign!

Did your mother not love you enough?

It’s because people care that they provide the feedback. The forum overhaul was a regression in design and its preventing actual helpful people from using it. That’s a problem for any website.
