What's up with USAA CC posting time??

Good morning all!

I have a USAA Preferred Cash Rewards (never heard of it & can't find anyone else that has it...??) that I rarely use because of the high APR. When I do use it, I pay it off right away - they also have a ridiculously long time for transcations to go from "Pending" to Posted."

I made a few purchases on Amazon last week, and decided to put it on this card to reflect some usage - guess what?? I have the merchandise,..and the trasactions are still pending!!

What gives with USAA?? I may have to bury this card deeper in the SD lol. What do you all recommend for annual usage of cards that are SD'd? (Use once every 3-6 months, 3 times a yr, etc..??)

I never seem to have that problem on my Limitless... The card posts transactions in an average amount of time (usually 2 to 3 days).

That's good, & I could understand 2-3 days, as all of my other cards post within that time frame. I made the Amazon purchases on 1/6 - I'm taking into consideration it was a Saturday, but it's now the 5th business day. I just want to pay them & get it over with. Lol

Your problem is not with USAA. It is with Amazon. They intentionally take a long time to finalize their charges with your financial institution. I think they do that to reduce the number of credits they have to issue if the merchandise remains on backorder, gets lost in shipping, arrives damaged, or has some other problem. This delayed posting with Amazon purchases affects several of my credit card accounts.

Didn't think of that, it makes sense. I'm an overthinker @ times & was thinking that it was USAA delaying it; I thought it would be out of Amazon's control once the payment was considered "approved."

iamdetermined my experiences with USAA for eight years now is it usually takes two days for posting except my USAA American Express always takes three days?! Now one of the posters mentioned Amazon holds transactions for the reasons mentioned in this thread. My regular interfaces with Amazon seem to result in longer posting dates varying on the sourcing and delivery time for the merchandise. In watching my other cards for master card or visa they regularly take two days for posting. In short, USAA has been the same as others. Remember, not all merchants process immediately and the slowness can be on their end (my pharmacy always takes three days).

My limitless card post transactions normally and also with amazon I’m a prime member so I purchase a lot from them. I’m assuming it might be because amazon doesn’t actually charge the card until the merchandise is shipped. What you see pending is a temporary charge for the full amount until it is finalized after shipment.

I agree, it's the merchant/Amazon hold. My other cards post within 24-48 hours; larger purchases I've seen go up to 3 days. I monitor my accounts frequently so it stood out, but I'll remember this going forward. Thx Dinosaur!

I have found that USAA takes between 2 and 3 days (sometimes longer) for purchases to leave the "pending" status. But boy, if you make a purchase within a day of your account's cycle date watch how fast those pending charges make it to your statement

You also have to remember that (in many cases) Amazon won't charge your card until right before they ship it out. So if you get two day shipping, your items may arrive before the charge posts.

Lol! Exactly! It's a fairly new card that I use for minimal purchases (horrible APR) just to show usage & PIF. The purchases finally posted, payment made & card now sock drawered. They will not catch me at statement cutting time next week😆😆

Precisely this.

This is the reason why I choose to load a chunk into an Amazon gift card (preferably with a 5% cashback card) and then spend it down gradually. Never have to worry about Amazon posting times ever again.

Indeed. I use 'black-out periods' for my cards that I want to report a zero balance (which is all but one right now), so that I can PIF prior to the statement date.

I have the same card and the transactions will post within two to three days.
