CSP odds?

I've been eyeing the CSP and was going to pull the trigger in April when my Discover CB match ends, but have some big spending coming up in the next 2 months that would allow me to reach the bonus. Here are my data points, what do you think my odds are? Better to apply for Freedom, then go CSP in the future?

EX: 737 (2), TU: 733 (3), EQ: ? (3)

03/17 Discover It - $2.6k CL

01/17 AMEX BCP - $9k CL

09/16 Student Loan - $6.5k/$6.5k

06/16 Capital One QS - $1.35k

No baddies and current util is <1%

Oldest: 19 mo; AAoA: 15 mo

Household income around $57k (married college student)

No banking relationship with Chase at the moment

Sign up for CCJ and see if they offer you CSP.

CCJ is Chase credit journey. Useless fako score but some folks get solid offers.

I've been signed up for it for a few months now. I've even checked in-branch for pre-approvals and they've always indicated that since I don't have any Chase products, I wouldn't be eligible for those in-branch pre-approvals.

You can still check for Chase preapproved offers online, the link is https://www.chase.com/prequalified

But from the information you provided, I'd say you have a moderately good chance of approval. Your score looks good although your history looks a little bit short.

I've checked the pre-quals site, nothing. I've checked the pulls database, but my situation is a bit more unique since I have a short credit history and no prior Chase banking relationship.

Hard to say, your income is fine and so is your credit score. The only thing that makes me pause is your very short credit history. But I’d put the odds better than 50/50. If not now tho I bet in 6 months to a year it would be way higher.

I think your odds are good. Age is a bit short, but you've got a good history, good income, good scores, good limits, good everything else.

The credit pulls database is a fantastic tool IMO. While the members of this forum offer great opinions, the credit pulls database only provides data (facts) which is really what you're after when considering to app for a product and you're wondering where your profile stands.

If you are not in any hurry to flash a prestigious card, I can tell you another option. I was approved for a Chase Freedom card.

2 months later, I was approved for the CSP. I had 16 years of AAoA reporting at the time with no Chase products. I eventually moved my Freedom limit over to my CSP.

With a short history, maybe you can app for the Freedom. Wait a year and app for the CSP. Some people think they are a perfect match. In another year you can decide which one you like best and transfer one limit to the other (minus $500) and close the one you do not like.

OP most likely wants the CSP for the signup bonus because of the upcoming spending needs making it easier to spend $4k in 3 months.

I'm confident I would get accepted for the Freedom, but Discover has good quarters for me and double cash back until April, so I wasn't wanting another 5% card until then when my double cash back would run out. I also have a few inquiries that would hit 1 yr by March, so there would be a few point increase as well. Since im in school, I hadnt paid attention to my student loan, but noticed that I had 103% utilitzation (due to interest), so I paid all of that down to 99% of the loan this week. Also due for another 3x CLI with Amex in ~2 months, going to shoot for $15k-$20k, which would also help with CSP approval odds.

My factors:

1) Discover cash back match and good categories for Q1 and Q2

2) Inquiries hitting 1yr (ineffective) by March

3) Small payment to bring util down from 100%+ on student loan

4) Possible AMEX CLI to take me to a 5-figure limit

5) $4k expenses over 3 months this summer will be very possible

6) Oldest account would be practically 2 yrs old, and AAoA at 1.5yrs+

So basing off of those factors, I figured the best time to pull the trigger would be in April/May for the CSP, but due to some unexpected payments I was hoping to get it now since I'm already going to be spending the $4k in 3 months.

I would wait until your new accounts age to the 6 month mark before you apply. Also, at that point you should get prequal offers from Chase.

Glad I'm not the only one who hasn't seen a Chase offer in forever. Last one was in May 2017. I check every Monday because supposedly marketing updates offers Sundays.

OP, have you tried requesting a CLI on your Discover card? I think your chances are already good, but a higher limit on Discover might improve them just a bit.
