Citi TY Premier >> Prestige

Talked to an actual American Citi rep tonight, who seemed knowledgable. Not really sure what to take from the conversation. I asked her when I am eligible to product change my TY Premier and she said "June."

She then asked what cards I would be interested in, I told her the Prestige. The rep said she wasn't sure if they were doing product changes to the Prestige card anymore. Is this true? She also said I 'most likely' would be able to convert to a card like the Double Cash (probably wouldn't) or they may offer product changes to the Citi Costco (may take if I can't PC to the Prestige) in the near future.

If I PC out of the ThankYou Rewards system, I will most likely PC my AT&T Access card as well. Anyone have an idea of what this card can PC to?

Anyone have any knowledgable information or data points here? I don't want to see "I don't know," "not sure," etc.

I requested my AA Platinum to Costco PC a year ago, and it was finalized 10 months ago, so my data point is that your CSR did not provide you with entirely accurate information. With Citi, getting an American CSR is far from a guarantee of competence.

I may have asked before but don't recall your answer...why don't you just app for Prestige as a new account?

I think the Prestige's underwriting criteria is too high. I've been approved for four Citi cards within the last year and after the first approval, I was denied for the Prestige, but approved for three more cards later. Not sure why I cannot get the Prestige, so this seems to be the only way to get the product. Plus there's a 24 month bonus rule.

There's currently no 24-month bonus rule for Prestige because it hasn't offered a public bonus since at least early December. Targeted offers, if they still exist, must be rare.

I've heard others say Citi rejects apps when they see a HP from within the last week. Not sure if it's true, but maybe your Prestige app triggered that? I don't know if/why they would reject someone for Prestige who would qualify for a $2k CL on another card.

It used to be the offer to upgrade from Premier to Prestige was available IIRC as of last year before Prestige changes took effect.

Since it appears you can't get approved for Prestige and given the 24-month bonus restriction with the same TY product family then just wait until June and proceed from there.

I doubt you can find a definitive answer today that would necessarily apply in 5 months from now. Citi PC policies are pretty fluid so what may be available today for some products may not be the case months from now or viceversa.

A family member of mine received a targeted 40K offer with a CitiGold relationship. So, while no current public offers may be available, Citi still runs the targeted ones from time to time from what I can see.

The problem with uncertainty is that I want to apply for a Citi Priority before getting the Prestige to lower the AF to $350.

Prestige AF for me has been $250, especially after opening CitiGold several years ago. I believe mine will be converted to Priority any moment now. IIRC, the transition started around November CitiGold > Priority.

It looks like the future of Prestige is more as an extra for existing banking customers than a highly desirable card in its own right.

Offering 40k TYs post-nerf for Prestige...and then only to customers who already have $200k in assets with them...isn't very enticing when they use to offer 100k for CitiGold and 50k and 75k publicly.

The card is a no brainer, although outside of Jet Blue, I don't see a huge benefit in the way of transfer partners. Citi lost Hilton (but the value wasn't great anyways), and they don't have Delta (so no Skyteam) point transfers. There's also no AAdvantage transfer partner, nor is there a 1.66 cpp redemption value.

The best way for me to redeem points on the Prestige will to be at 1.25 cpp through the portal with point travel quite honestly. The card, however, will be used for the benefits and not the points, so perhaps I could just stick with AMEX, except when purchasing trips and items that need the ultimate protection against merchant corruption.

Strictly speaking, there are options.

Flying Blue is Skyteam and not hard to use for partner awards. So is Garuda, but I know very little about that program.

Asia Miles, Malaysia, Qantas, and Qatar are all in oneworld (like AA). I'm not sure how hard it is to book an AA flight with them.

Whether you'll have enough points to book a trip...and whether you want to learn how to book partner awards with them...are other matters. I'm about at my limit as to the number of programs I'm willing to use.

Delta-operated awards appear in a general FB award search. That said, there may not be award availability (at any price) for some flights.

It's amazing how I can read an article talking about using FB points through Delta for Carribean flights, but can't take a flight from NY JFK to anywhere in the Carribean with either FB or Delta though FB??

You're looking correctly, but there may be no availability on those dates. I just searched for two dates in June and saw awards for JFK to AUA, STI, and SJU. The fourth one I checked, NAS, did not have availability.
