Want to get Costco AMEX TrueEarnings card

Anyone with experience with that card pl help. My scores are TU-662 EX-672 EQ-635. They will get a big bump because i am paying off 96% off my current cap1 credit card. Also I have a car loan starting this month. After 6 months or so, will be good to apply for this card. I will keep the util in cc below 5% and also pay off 50% of car loan in 6 months. Advices appreciated.

I think AMEX almost exclusively pulls Experian. You may want to try whogavemecredit.com for what they pulled for others. I can tell you that at the time I applied was 6 months ago and I had an EX score of 700. I don't know what their cutoff is but I have heard of people with 680's getting the card. I think once you pay off the credit card debt there shouldn't be much problem score wise. However AMEX is a crazy beast and you never know what they are going to do.

However I do love the card and they haven't taken any action against me yet.

When I apply my AE Costco DEC 2008 . My EX 695 and I apply in store and take 2 days to approve.

In my experience in 2007 they did pull all three credits, or

at least including Transunion..

I don't think it matters whether you do it online or in the store, they will both be processed the same.

Actually, if you apply in store they take your picture and if your card is approved, they will put the picture on the back of the card and send it you. If you apply online and approved, you still have to goto store and have them take you rpicture and then put it on the back of the card and mail it to you. So if possible applying in the store can be better, but I am not sure if it would have any bearing on the approval process. As per Costco card approval, besides your score, your purchases with Costco store also would weigh heavily on the approval.

As I understand it, this is one of the toughest AmEx cards to get, and as concorduser said, it really helps to have a shopping history with Costco.

Actually, if you apply online and are approved, they will just use the picture that is on your Cosco membership card. There is no need to go back into the store just to get your picture taken.

But I agree with others that they also look at your Costco purchases, so watch out for that.

I want to apply for this card, and I just purchased a new car and in the process of loan shopping i have 6 enquiries on EX and TU and 4 or EQ (most of them done by dealer, some lenders enquired all 3 :-( ).

My scores are EX-721, TU-717 EQ-678 and I have brought my util to less than 10% now.

Is it ok if I apply for this card now or shall I wait for 6 months(will it help to wait)?

Also, my new auto loan is going to show up next month? Will my scores take a hit?

Personally I think your scores are good enough now but waiting couldn't hurt. What is your purchase history with Costco like? Do you buy often and how much?

Does the AMEX Costco card backdate like regular AMEX cards to your earliest AMEX member date? I am thinking about getting one, but not if it shows up on my report like a new account.

yes. I got the AMEX Costco card last December and on the card it said "Member Since 88"

Sorry to bring up an old thread but how long does the normal approval process takes? I applied online and it said that if I'm approved I should receive the card in 14 days. I called CSR this morning and they couldn't find a record of my account. She said that it could take up to 3 days to verify my Costco membership and for it to update on their computer (AMEX's computer). Does it really take 14 days to approve?

No, it is as you wrote: Approval may take two to three days, whereas sending the card to your home may take up to two weeks (for me it's mostly a bit more than a week from approval).

Thanks Ulan, you were exactly right! I applied on Monday and was approved today for only $2000 (is that normal? seems a little low to me). The card will arrive in 7 to 10 business days. Now I can retire my Blue Cash card.

Do you know what your scores were when you applied for the card? I have absolutely no clue what current score from Experian. I know I have a 30 day late from 2004 on that report (my only baddie). My UTIL is about 8% but I have a high UTIL on one card that has the 0% rate. I'm just trying to get an idea of what my EXP score is roughly.

BTW, I guess I feel better about the $2000CL. It looks like a good card, especially since I dine out a lot.
