About 2 months ago, Chase sent me letter saying if I didn't use my Slate card they would close it. It has a higher limit, so I used it. Today my wife got a letter from Chase saying her Slate will close "in the next two months". No biggie, no balance and just a $7K line. We all know once you use the "one time 0% balance transfer", the Slate card then becomes completely useless day to day.

I've always had issues with Chase that go back 10 yrs and I want to shut my wife's card down today. There are about 50 things to click on, but none say "close account" unless I'm missing something. Does my wife have to call customer service? Is there a difference between them closing it or my wife closing it? Her FICO is 836.

Thanks.

It will reflect closed by credit grantor on the CR. It shouldn't impact your score, but some would argue it could impact something if an underwriter manually reviews it. Personally, I'd say it wouldn't impact anything, especially with that score. Kind of a moot point though. Why not just call in, if you know you want to cancel? Have you considered PC'ing to another Chase card? Is your wife over 5/24?

I actually kinda like Chase. The rotating 5% category is nice on the Freedom is nice and the Freedom UNlimited isn't a bad 1.5% card at all. Even if you don't use it much, Chase treats you well with a hard pull CLI if you use the card. Also, not sure if you can PC to the Amazon Visa but that's actually a cool card too because it get's you 2% back at drugstores, some sort of % back on dining, and 1% on eveerything else and with good use they might give you a monster CLI. Sucks they said they're going to close it. Maybe you can ask customer service to remove the upcoming closure or try and PC it before and does and see if that resets something.

No reason to get upset with them - its realistic though.. If you dont use it for xx months, most banks WILL close an account. that is normal..

At least they sent you a letter.

If you dont want thm to close it - use it! Buy a cheeseburger at McDonalds.. and then they will keep it open....ll

Quote from Chase letter; "We noticed you have not used your credit card account recently, so we are closing it within the next two months on it's expiration date due to inactivity. Your account has no balance; however, you may use it until it expires and closes."

It's not closed, but it will not renew, and will close within 60 days.

Wow, sorry to hear that and thanks for clarification. Im suprised they didnt even offer you the chance to keep it open if you continue to use it.

@Turbobuickwrote:

Thanks.

I would have to agree with everyone; at least they gave you a warning letter of some sort. Wells Fargo decided to close my CC without any letter, message, email, phone call, telegram, code, crptography (you get the picture). I had to waste two hard pulls to get the bugger re-opened. At least you have a choice to make.

As everyone has stated, I have to agree with the option of product changing the card to something more useful or move the credit line over to another Chase product you might already have. At least try to get something out of the card closing.

Hope our replies help

For clarification, there are two separate Slate cards/accounts, mine and the wifes. They warned me and to save the larger line of older credit, I used it. A few days ago, they sent the closure letter to my wife on her card out of the blue. We have a checking acct., car loan, Amazon card and the Slates, so we are an established customer in good standing. I plan on moving completely away from Chase completely in the next couple years, so a product change isn't on the horizon.

I did close the account with private message. Easier than I thought.

Thanks again to all that responded in kind. Appreciate it.
