Combine Cap one cards

I have 2 capital one cards. The QS1 and the platinum. The platinum is at 500cl and the QS1 should get an automatice increase to 1000CL this week ( on the steps program). I have had the QS1 the longest opened one year ago this month and the platinum is 6 months old. I am thinking of combining into the QS1 and just have a 1500cl as I don't see them being very generous with either cards in the future . I am really trying to minimize my cards and have gotten rid of some dogcrap ones already.

Do you think this would be a wise decision?

I would try to upgrade the Platinum to QS before combining. This would save you the AF.

Is the Platinum also on steps? You might want to wait till it receives its steps CLI before combining so you can have a higher combined line.

Have you tried the Cap1 Upgrade link? You might get an option like I did to make your QuicksilverOne into a Quicksilver

I tried that link a no go. However I figured since I am due for a CLI this week why not hit the button got a 500 increase I will take it, now I am just thinking to combine with plat 500 cl for a total of 1750CL on one card?

Bookmark that link and keep checking it intermittently. When you are qualified for an upgrade to regular Quicksilver itll be there. So much easier than calling and you can check whenever you want

Hello. New to this board. I have two platinum cards and wondering if I should combine. I clicked on the link to see if I could upgrade and I didn’t see that as an option to attempt so perhaps it’s not available to me? Not sure.

Anyone I have one platinum I opened in June 2017 with a 1250 limit and one I opened in Nov 2017 with a 750 limit. Wondering if I should try to combine them. My understanding is if it’s successful I’ll have one card with a 2k limit. Wondering if that is better for my credit score/profile or better to keep both open? Thoughts?

I also have a 1500 hsbc card, a 2500 us bank secured and a 2500 Fingerhut. All opened in early 2017 I believe.

Should I try to combine the cap ones? Leave em alone? Can I combine with hsbc by chance? (Didn’t cap one buy them?)

Sorry for so many Qs in my first post. Thx for any help!

You need to have a zero ($0) balance on at least one of the cards to be able to combine them. If there's a balance on both cards, that would explain why you can't do it yet; you need to either pay off the card that you want to combine/close or BT it (remember that you can't do BT between Capital One cards, you'll have to transfer it to a different issuer's card). Also, both cards should be at least six months old (I think - there's some information indicating that might not be necessary), but you seem to have that covered since your newer card was opened last November. Furthermore, it's a good idea to check for any available CLI offers on either card before doing the combine so that you don't, as the saying goes, leave money on the table. I would recommend that, once you get combination available, you combine the newer card (opened in 11/2017) into the older card (opened 6/2017) because you want to keep the average age of your accounts up as much as possible.

Also, from what I remember you can't combine a secured card with an unsecured card. Is either of your Platinums secured?

I think I was confusing in my last post. I didn’t try to combine yet, I was hoping by clicking the link in the tread where it says you might be able to upgrade from platinum to quicksilver that id see that option but it just took me to my normal acct page.

I do see the link to request to combine and haven’t that bc I wasn’t sure if my credit profile would be optimized by doing so. Your post helps me think I should combine if possible.

Both cards have 0 balances. I have used them a lot in the past six months. I will take your advice and try for cli for each via their website and then try to combine them into the older card.

Ah, I think I see where the issue is. PC'ing ("product change") a card from Platinum to Quicksilver is a different process from combining two cards. Curious that you can't PC either of your cards yet; I got a Platinum MC in February 2017 and upgraded it to Quicksilver four months later in June. Anyway, on your account page for either card, you can find a link to combine cards (I think it's under "Services", next to the link for CLI).

There isn't an upgrade link in your account. To check to see if you have upgrades available, you can use the link on the previous page of this thread. But the better solution is to call in or chat. That's because late this past winter, Capital One started offering Savor upgrades. But Savor offers never appeared when checking via the link.

Of course, now that the Savor has been split into two products, we won't know how PC offers might work until we get updated data points.

I recently combined 2 of my cards, a Platinum and a QS. There's a link in your services where it can be done. Also, if you are looking to do a PC, I suggest calling Cap1 and speaking to a CSR. They can tell you all of the options available.

@HeavenOhio - I asked a rep about the new Savor One - currently they cannot be PC'd to as of this time since the new card came out and the benefits have changed for both the Savor/SavorOne. Estimated time for PC to become to available is around 4-6 months.
