topic Citi AA Amex -- Upgrade / PC? in Credit Cards

So I have a long standing Citi American Airlines Advantage card back when it was with Amex. I used to use it heavily and now it's in the SD.

Been thinking about switching to the Citi AAdvantage® Platinum Select MC? It's the same annual fee of $95.

But I'd only switch to try to get the 50k bonus miles offer.

Not sure if it would be a new app. Would only do so if it were a SP and can keep the same account # as well as member since date.

The site says:

American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles are not available if you have had any Citi / AAdvantage card (other than a CitiBusiness / AAdvantage card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.

This card was on in 2007 so that part isn't a problem.

Has anyone else had similar experience?
Thanks in advance.

You can't upgrade/product change to get another offer like the signup bonus. You can ask the customer service and hope that there is one, but I would say the chance will be very slim.

You cannot keep the same card account number when doing such conversion, because an Amex network card number starts with 37, but a MasterCard card number begins with 5.

Valid point about the account numbers having to change from 3 to 5. Didn’t think about that. Thanks!

Yours is just an Amex? Until I closed it last year, I had two cards on the same account, one a Visa the other an Amex (they shared the same CL). I got it several years ago, haven't seen such a scheme elsewhere.
