In the next couple months, I might step out of the garden when the AF on my USB FlexPerks is due.
Ever since getting the Altitude. It gets very little use. Mainly only at the grocery store since that’s my highest highest spend out of the 3 bonus categories offered. But it’s hard to justify the AF since I only spend about 3500 on groceries a year while abroad.
So basically the extra 1.5CPP over the Altitude. I break even with including the AF so I’m not earning any extra rewards.

When I’m in the US, I use the Altitude for groceries so it gets used for gas during those times but I only spend about 50 a month on gas while in the US.

Is there a card out there that gives bonuses on gas and groceries. Doesn’t matter if it’s points or cash back.

Requirements:
No FTF (I spend 8 months abroad for work)
Visa/MC only ( other network acceptance very poor)

Thanks!

I recommend the PayPal Cashback mastercard if you do not already have. 2% cashback on everything and no FTF.

Not a huge fan but the Penfed Platinum rewards give ~ 2.54% on groceries (including those abroad) and ~ 4.3% on gas, no annual fee, no FTF, might need to keep a small amount in a money market account.

There are a lot of 3/2/1 cards as well, in some cases 3 is gas, others groceries.

Google isn’t the easiest to use. Most of the FTF cards that pop up don’t include gas or groceries.

Will have to look into PenFed.

Any other suggestions ?

If you're a Costco member the CITI Costco visa is 4% back in gas and 3% back on travel and dining with no FTF. You need to be able to justify paying the annual Costco membership fee though, but I do shop a lot at Costco.

Another choice is the BoA travel card. It has no FTF, no annual fee, and pays 1.5% back. If you have a BoA bank account that rises to 1.6%. If you can put retirement savings at Merrill Edge it rises to as much as 2.63% back on all transactions with no FTF.

Paired with the Costco card it's a great travel combo.

Amex blue cash has FTF and the bonuses are only in the US so that’s out. Plus I’ve found maybe one store down here that takes Amex.

I have an Amex PRG but again the bonuses are only in the US so that card is going after the first year. It doesn’t make sense and I won’t pay the AF just to have the card. I like Amex a lot but $95 is just too steep to use the card 3 months a year.

I have the BoA travel rewards, it’s a decent card for being free but I was trying to get something higher then 1.5% since that’s pretty standard across all my cards.

Costco looks enticing but the requirement of being a Costco member axes it. I’m not in the US long enough to justify joining Costco.

Looks like PenFed is my only choice so far.

Any other ideas ?

I looked at the huntington voice card but I would only get 5% on gas or groceries but it has no annual fee and No FTF.

Costco looks enticing but the requirement of being a Costco member axes it. So if you know of someone in US thats up close & personal to you and would have a good use for the Costco membership & Costco Visa for gas & groceries, the usage on gas & groceries alone pretty much covers the annual fee or atleast comes close to it.

I understand you may not have much usage, however, its worth finding out.
