hi all,

really interested in trying to get the Amazon prime visa since do alot of my shopping there and also whole foods. Was trying to get any information i could on when would be the best time to apply. I currently have an amazon store card. My transunion is at around 640 and i dont have a chase card yet but i do bank with them. I have tried to prequalify for chase but they never have any offers. Whats an ideal credit score to have before applying? Also do they ever prequalify you on there own?

I got denied when I had an extremely short credit history and a score around 715. Two years later I got approved with a score around 760.

I suspect it was my short history more than anything else that resulted in the original denial. At that time I had only been in the US about six months.

Check out the credit pulls database and see what the lowest scores were that were approved for the card as well as the average scores. From there you can make the most informed decision. Chances are if you aren't sure, you should hold out on applying until you feel better about it.

What cards do you have now, and how long have you had them? In general, Chase likes to see a history that's at least a year old. And they don't like recently opened accounts.

While I was still in my re-building phase, I applied when it first came out and got approved for $1000 with a 627 credit score, no lates and utilization at about 44%. Now my utilization is 55%, I just purchased a car for $38,000, then for some resaon they gave me a limit of $3500, even with the UTI. So I think it totally depends on your own file.

When I applied for the card, I had gotten three new cards in the previous six weeks, with one of them maxed on a 0% promo. My limit was lower than it would have been otherwise, and my APR wasn't particularly favorable. Had I known then what I know now, I'd have applied when my report was in better shape.

How long is your history?

Chase is hard core about history and recently opened lines of credit

I felt very confident applying for the Amazon but barely made it in with a low cl. In retrospect, waiting an additional 3 weeks to apply may have made a difference of several thousand on my SL

From my research, the CBs pulled will vary by location, but Chase will pull two of them. Here in Washington State, they pulled EX and EQ . Other users in other locations have reported pulls to TU and either EX or EQ. As mentioned Google the credit pulls database for more details.
