Does downgrading Citi AA count as closing?

Does downgrading the Citi AA Platinum to the No AF version reset the timer to get the bonus again for the Citi AA? I’m Aware you have to wait 24 months when you open or close the Citi AA for the bonus again but wanted to make sure downgrading doesn’t count as closing to Citi before I do it.

IIRC, downgrading or PC'ing doesn't reset the clock as long as you keep the account open.

Eh, hate to disagree with you but according to the Wiki on FlyerTalk;

Yes. Downgrading to a different card (aka a "product change" or PC) counts as closing the AA card. This includes downgrades from AA Platinum to Gold as well as downgrades to non-AA cards. A similar rule has also been true for involuntary, Citi-initiated conversions of legacy, no-longer-issued AA Visa & Amex cards to MasterCards; these events are both a closure (of the old card) and an opening (of the replacement MC).
