From what I've read on here (plus other sources), it depends. But, I guess the question begs, why would one suggest a lender to pull a specific agency when such decisions are typically factored automatically (in most cases) with an assigned CR?

I can see this being on a case-by-case basis if the lender wasn't able to access a CR that they'd normally retrieve (aside from a freeze but rather a split file, for instance).
Or, from an identity theft or fraud perspective, where the CR in question may be compromised or under investigation.

Is this to improve your CLI chances down the road in the event that a SP CLI doesn't yield fruitful results?

Not sure if this is even possible, but I'm sure someone has tried this. I would assume that the results here would be very lender-specific, so while my question is open to all lenders the one I'm considering in this case is Citi for what it's worth.

When making the decision to take a HP for a CLI, has anyone ever called the lender and asked if they could HP a certain bureau? If so, has anyone had success with such a request, or was your request met with a simple "no?"

@FinStar

Understood, but lenders have no need to accomodate any personal strategies to circumvent the lowering of a pristine FICO score.

I don't disagree, but lenders do at times listen to their customers and make small accommodations in the name of customer service. Whether or not Citi is one of them or would do this I don't know, hence my reason for starting this thread.

It's like when someone requests an off-cycle reporting on their credit card because they made a large payment and want the utilization to report lower to bump their score up. Lenders have no need to accommodate such a request, as helping someone bump up their FICO score isn't a priority by any means. Some lenders however will do this in the name of customer service, as there's no downside on their end outside of a few key strokes. The same is true regarding my thread topic here as well, even if it's an even less common request.

It's a great accomplishment, nevertheless. 850 is great, been there, done that.

I guess the questions you'll have to ask yourself: do you simply accept whatever the Citi SP yields as far as the CLI and be ok with that (even if the amount doesn't meet your expectations) in order to save 850 from the HP ding? Or, do you let Citi UW do it's thing (whichever CR they pull for your region) and see whether the fruits of that HP satisfy getting the CL to your desirable level? One way or the other, something's gotta give.
