The changes to the CSR also include what we already knew was going to happen, the loss of price protection. The PP will now limit you to 2 free guests and it will be $27 for any additional guest. The latter change isn't surprising to me as this was a feature that was often abused where large groups would enter on one card and ‘devour’ the place. Similar what the Ritz Carlton’s had to in limiting guests that could accompany you into their Club level facilities. I would expect to the RC credit card to follow suit in limiting the number of free PP guests.

The loss of 900 UR points translates to about $20. Not great changes but I don’t think it will affect the card’s overall desirability

Moderator note - If people want to discuss the new business card coming then please start a new thread in the business credit forum. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Doctor of Credit is reporting this evening that Chase is making some changes to both its business and personal credit cards. On the personal side, the Chase Sapphire Reserve will no longer earn 3x UR points for those charges that count towards the $300 travel credit. There are also changes to the Priority Pass benefit. On the business side, a new 1.5x UR points-on-everything Ink card is being introduced, but it is unclear if this card replaces the current 5x UR points-on-categories Chase Ink Cash card.

With changes to the CSR like this, it makes the USBank Altitude card a more and more superior choice. And if, as rumored, Chase stops allowing transfer of URP to CSR, that will really be the fatal nerf.

Chris.

A couple of the changes on the CSR aren't unreasonable to me:

- Purchases towards the $300 credit never should've qualified for points to begin with. It's kinda like when you use miles for a plane ticket. You just don't get the miles for the flight. Hotel stays on points or when you pay for your annual fee.

- Limiting PP to fewer guests may affect large groups or families, but again, airline clubs limit this benefit too.

I actually consider Price Protection more of a loss than the 2 other benefits.

I’m actually happy about the limit on guests. That’s going to really only affect families of 4 or more (as a family of 4, how many times are you really traveling where paying for the extra person is going to bankrupt you? Besides DH or DW can always get it with an AU card bringing the total to 6) and those who were abusing it anyway by bringing the entire office in.

As I am about to PC to the CSR, I would like clarification on the no points part, though. I’m okay if $300 doesn’t earn 3 URs or even 1 UR, but does that mean that, for example, a $1000 airline charge will only earn points on $700, or does that mean that no portion of any charge that qualifies for reimbursement (even if only partially) will earn points?

They'll probably do it where the credit applied will just take back the points earned when the $300 credit is applied like a negative clawback.
