I have heard that if you apply and get approved for the Amex Platinum card that Amex gives you a Gold card as well with it if you want it. Is that true?

Authorized users get the gold card for free. There’s no extra charge as far as the annual fee goes.

Yeah, basically free gold cards for AUs. But it's not the same as the PRG iirc the point earning structure is the same as the Platinum...I'm sure if that's not totally accurate someone will correct me lol, but basically yes but it's not the same as the PRG.

Also fwiw for the Platinum the fee for getting a platinum card for an authorized user is the same if you have 1, 2, or 3 AUs. So 1 AU is a $175 fee or 3 AUs is a $175 fee.

Lounge access if the AU is not travelling with you.

Global Entry or Pre-check every 5 years for Plat AU's.

Gold status for Starwood Preferred Guest and Hilton Honors for Plat AU.

Boingo WiFi access for Plat AU.

The easiest way to say it is that AUs get all of the benefits that the primary user does, except for their own Uber credit and Uber VIP status (the airline reimbursement credit is shared among all cards on the account). Adding to the list:

Access to Platinum CS and Concierge

Access to Fine Hotels & Resorts and The Hotel Collection perks

Shoprunner

Avis/Hertz/National (and by extension, Enterprise) status + ability to use Amex corporate discount code when charged to a Platinum card

There are some others as well, but those are the ones most likely to be used (I'm not sure how often Joe. Q Authorizeduser uses the Private Jet program, for instance)

Yes. You can request up to 99 gold AU cards for free. They are different than the Amex Premium Rewards Gold or the Amex Platinum. They are extensions of the Platinum, but are gold and look very similar to the PRG. I added myself as an AU and got the gold AU card. No biggie there.
