AMEX SUB & Balance Transfer

I had been waiting to get in with AMEX for awhile, and finally pulled the trigger today on a BCE with $200 for $1000 spend SUB. Couple of questions:

1) when will the SUB hit if for sake of argument I met spending requirements with a single purchase today?

2) will that SUB reduce my outstanding statement balance if I have already made a BT to the card in advance of meeting the requirements?

Hard to say, some people get the SUB before statement closing, after and some months after. From my experience, since i've been with AMEX, all my SUBs have hit immediatley after meeting the spending. Others have reported waiting months or weeks.

BTs - Yes. Say your CL is $1000 and you do a BT of $300, your balance will be $300. Say you meet the spend and get the $200, your balance will then be only $100 ($300 - SUB of $200) = $100.

Once you have the $200 available to redeem, you will need to go to the AMEX link to redeem as cash back. Once you do that, takes a couple of days to post on your account.

Thanks what about reverse order? Say I have only used the card for purchases and paid my balance in full. I get the SUB and have a $200 credit. I then transfer over $300. Will that immediately show as $100 remaining, or will it keep the credit in reserve for new purchases?

No it will not. It will show $100 balance immediately.

Just be aware that if you comingle purchases and a balance transfer you will be charged interest immediately and that will continue until you pay off the entire balance. In other words, if you put some spend, then do a BT you will be charged interest. The same holds true if you do the reverse. So if you're going to do a BT make sure you haven't made any purchases, or any current purchases are fully paid.

Congratulations on your approval!

I met the spend amount on May 5. The SUB showed up as a statement credit on May 8 which left me with a credit balance. It did not appear under my rewards dollars but was automatically applied.
